Dave Allen (Irish comedian who had lost part of his left forefinger) said that he often stuck his finger in his whiskey glass and it had been eaten away by “strong drink”....

Heh, heh, I was stationed in Germany with a sergeant major who must have been there since the occupation. When he hit mandatory retirement & was finally headed stateside, someone asked him how he was ever going to get re accustomed to drinking American beer.
He replied he was going to take a German beer & gradually start adding Clorox!
This was no exaggeration as Budweiser tasted like fizzy chemical froth compared to any local beer made according to the `Reinigungsgesetz’ which is said to be the oldest continually enforced law in the world.
It states that beer will consist of nothing other than water, barley, yeast & hops.

Hey, why not buy “imported” beers?
Funny story when I was in Stockholm a few years back — they stocked imported American beers. They had a pretty good selection — Fat Tire, Boulder Beer. Just a couple of miles from my home.
Some of the local to the States beers are pretty good. Just avoid the pi$$ beers.

You mean a sleeve of Fig Newtons PLUS a quart of ice cold whole milk.
Now THAT is a serving size I can live with.

Campaigners are calling for lines to be printed on glasses to show drinkers how many units of alcohol they are really consumingand potentially to shock them into cutting down. Are they really that stupid?

It is more likely that bar patrons might see it as a starting line...
