Republican Senator: 'GOP First Must End Cronyism in Our Own Ranks'
The Weekly Standard ^ | 4/7/2014 | DANIEL HALPER

Republican senator Mike Lee has an op-ed decrying cronyism. But first, he says, the Republicans must purge the unseemly activity from within its "own ranks."

"[T]o fix what’s broken in Washington and our economy," Lee writes in National Review Online, "a still-distrusted GOP first must end cronyism in our own ranks. The GOP has to close its branch of the Beltway Favor Bank and truly embrace a free-enterprise economy of, by, and for the people."

Lee continues:

Impossible? That’s what they said about earmarks.

Too radical a change? These are principles we already espouse.

Imagine a reformed Republican party seizing the moral high ground against political corruption and economic dysfunction. Imagine its leaders, advocating populist, free-market reforms to restore jobs, growth, and fairness to the economy. Faster than you can say “TARP,” we could pin the Left between their egalitarian facade and their elitist agenda, and force them to choose between K Street and Main Street.

These votes in the House, when nobody is around, that have been taking place the last few week have got to stop.

Every body but these 'Critters:

"Voted with Cruz all three times:

Mike Crapo (R-ID)

Ted Cruz (R-TX)

Mike Enzi (R-WY)

Chuck Grassley (R-IA)

Dean Heller (R-NV)

Mike Lee (R-UT)

Rand Paul (R-KY)

James Risch (R-ID)

Pat Roberts (R-KS)

Marco Rubio (R-FL)

Jeff Sessions (R-AL)

Richard Shelby (R-AL)

Pat Toomey (R-PA)

David Vitter (R-LA)

"

Though even some of these have fallen off the wagon since.

We had a chance in the primary this year but couldn’t pull it off. Maybe next time we can have a better slate of candidates to run against him but it’s going to be six long years.

Really?

Sounds good... Sounds noble...

In truth it makes about as much sense as entering into a firefight with no weapon. Playing the moral high ground will do nothing more than empower the opposition. Nature abhors a vacuum - those power brokers will find welcome homes with the Democrats, should the Republicans abandon them.

The end to Cronyism must come from We The People, if not by means of the ballot box, then by means of a bayonet.

While dumping the cronyism, get rid of the royalty, and throw out the court jesters.

There’s a lot of states who’d like him, too.

Ironic - the party that would do just as Lee says would never lose another election - but both of the big ones are so corrupt that it will never happen.

We need a Lensman to run for president.
