WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Winter Haven Police said officers are on the scene of a burglary that resulted in the homeowner shooting the suspect inside of the residence.
Police said just before 7 a.m., the homeowners at a home on the 4200 block of Lake Marianna Dr. heard what sounded like someone entering the back of the house.
One of them went to investigate and found a male rattling the French doors leading off a back porch, got a firearm and fired a shot in an attempt to scare the reported intruder off.
Police said the intruder continued inside the home. Undeterred by the shot at this point, police said all three residents had armed themselves and were in the kitchen.

My only issue is the use of a warning shot.
They were discussing this on local radio this morning. I have to imagine this perp was high. “Hot” burglaries, esp. in Florida, are a rarity.
Undeterred by the shot .... ?

LOL. The residence set up an ambush, complete with crossfire entrapment and flank support (I’m guessing). I love this. Breaks into the house and is met with an arsenal of lead rain makers slinging the goods.
I would have liked to witness the short strat meeting that put the defenders in position.

They are becoming more common. My house was robbed and its only by the grace of God that my wife was gone.
I’ve also had people casing my house recently. Neighbor saw them and got their license plate so hopefully they wont return after a visit from the cops.

Why fire a warning shot?
My warning shot is center mass. Its a warning that if you don’t fall down the next is in the forehead.
I hope the perp is even holier than reported. Bullets will do that you know.

As a firearms instructor, my issue is how did the perp survive at least three shots?

defense atty’s make a big deal about warning shots. if it’s not life or death why did you fire? reckless use of a deadly weapon. it’s all bs but they have and do try to make a huge deal about it. solution - no warning shots. if you aren’t in fear of life or serious injury, don’t fire. don’t give them an “in” to confuse the issue and make you appear to be using your gun in a non-life threatening situation b/c that’s what a warning shot means.
It’s gonna be bad enough dealign with a justified shoot.
