I spent a week or two on DG about thirty years ago in transit from Gonzo Station. It was like Gilligan’s Island, only with lots of noisy jets and no Mary Ann or Ginger. I actually enjoyed my time there after spending interminable months on the USS Independence. They made you eggs to order in the galley and the good didn’t all taste like jet fuel. Freekin’ luxury. But I can’t see why anybody would go there on leave with all the other alternatives.

I was at Gonzo station for a time back when that idiot Carter was attempting to pacify our country back into a powerless backwater because we were too “militaristic” for him. On the USS Midway when the word came down and off we went. Even getting rammed by a tanker was not enough to stop us from getting there at top speed. Never knew a carrier could rattle so much, big as it was.
