Let sleeping dogs lie, they say. But perhaps they should also have said something about not painting cats to look like flowerbeds.
And they should have said it really loudly while in New Jersey, where the worlds largest (and most bonkers) pet-grooming summit has just taken place.
Some 2,000 moggies entered Intergroom, in which they were transformed into exotic creations including lions, tigers, birds and, er, wild flowers.
And they do not look very happy about it.

Poor baby.
I like cats and that’s just wrong. It’s a form of abuse.
I take care of a little stray TNR kitty in my neighborhood and last night she brought a new friend by... I did a double-take when I saw it, because my first instinct was, “That thing is covered with mange!” It turned out to be a long-haired cat that someone had done a horrible job of clipping. It still had the ruffle around it’s neck, but the entire body was clipped really close and they left this ridiculous puffball on the end of its tail, and it looked like it was wearing little ski boots. To top it all off, they had done a pretty bad job, leaving clipper tracks all over the poor creature’s coat! I told my little stray friend, “You’ve got some strange acquaintances.”
Agreed.
I keep my long-haired in a lion cut for *her* comfort. This is ridiculous.
Poodles got it worse.
:]
Nope. Poodles are natural subs. Cats are natural doms.
Less is more. I’d declare Bird Stalker the winner.
Absolutely disgusting. These are living creatures, not toys. When I took my magnificent Maine Coon to the groomer, I was horrified to hear her ask, “Do you want a lion cut for her?” I think the entire shopping center must have heard me shriek, “NOOOOOO!!!!!” She just had some bad mats she wouldn’t let me work on removed, a bath in colloidal oatmeal shampoo to soothe her skin from a bit of dandruff, conditioner and being blow dried and groomed. When she left the groomer, she then looked like a million bucks! With her lovely coat-for-three Maine Coon coat intact.
Our cats are always whining about cat abuse if I don’t open the can fast enough, don’t keep their dry-food toy full, and
don’t give them enough pets and scritches.
They don’t know what real cat abuse is. I wish I could get them to sit in my chair and look at those horrible pictures.
Surprises in their shoes would be getting off mildly after what they did to those poor kittehs.
My late Rocket loved to get groomed at the vet’s. There was a nice, warm cat dryer (the vet exclusively treated cats),
and when I went to pick him up after his shampoo and dry, he would be sitting in it, grinning and enjoying the warmth.
I miss him a lot.
The humiliation...the embarrassment...the degradation...
If I even thought that, mine would give me a look that said, “How would you like your facial scars? Vertical, Horizontal, or are you into that Tic Tac Toe look.
What kind of person does that to their kitty?
Misty loves her lion cut, and she’s a total sweetheart at the groomer. The lion cut’s for her benefit, though, not because I’m using her to get attention.
Attention whores.
