During the summer these same two eagles hang out on the porch about every day like it is their own private perch. Video in Unalaska, Alaska in the Aleutian Islands by Pam Aus.

Pretty cool. Bring them some anchovies (or a mouse) next time.

I live close to one of the most eagle populated sections of the Mississippi. It's not unusual to see fifty or more at a time. People who live nearby do not let cats or slipper dogs out unguarded or they may lose them.

I always thought anything bigger than a large rabbit was too much for a bird of prey.

Too big? I don't think so.
Check out this article on bald eagles. From the article:
A bald eagle's lifting power is about 4 pounds.
Last time I checked, my cat weighs about 13 pounds. I think most of them are at least 11 or 12 pounds - far outside of the lifting capability of a bald eagle.

I’ve seen the youtube vids of them carrying off far larger.

Perhaps it’s because they already had inertia, I couldn’t say, just have seen them with some big stuff heh.

Either way, they wouldn’t need to carry them, I think one day that lady will realize she’s missing two cats.

They can carry off big birds, but remember that (flight-capable) birds are quite light for their size.

Not a bald eagle.

There is a family of hawks who regularly visit the back deck of my neighbor, because they leave strips of meat out for them. They will in fact peck on the back sliding glass door if the meat is not there.

There was a hawk watching me hit golf balls out in a field. He finally swooped down and grabbed one and flew back up in a tree. I walked over calmly to see if he still had it. I said, drop it, and he did. End of lame story. I think they are smart.

the eagles eat fish not cats...she is next to a fish processing plant and probably fed them since they were chicks. Eagles are inherently lazy and prefer to mooch rather than fish

Yes, the cats might not have been a viable “to go” meal, but they were definitely on the “dine in” menu.
