Santa Clara police fatally shot a woman who they say started attacking them with a baseball bat.
Lt. Kurt Clarke said in a statement the officers, whom he did not identify, feared "for their safety," and fired at her about 4:50 p.m. Sunday in the 5000 block of Lick Mill Boulevard after they were called there because she called 911 "making threats to harm herself and others."
When they arrived, police said the woman came out of the front door and attacked the officers with the bat.
She was treated at the scene but died later at a hospital.

Fatal officer-involved shootings are unusual in Santa Clara. The last instance was in 2012 when a 42-year-old man was killed during a DUI investigation after he became "uncooperative" and reached for his gun, police said,

The incident began about 4:50 p.m. Sunday when police received a call from a woman threatening to harm herself and others, police said. She said she had taken pills, wanted police to shoot her and would attack officers with a bat, authorities said.
Many departments have stopped issuing batons after the Rodney King incident. To afraid of lawsuits for excessive force. Now they only have to justify against a perceived life threat. No continuum of force necessary.
Sorry. If someone attacked me with a bat, I’d shoot them, too. If I am willing to defend myself with lethal force in such a situation, I will concede that much to the cops.
I hope there is a film of the incident, though, to make sure the cops told the truth.

It takes about 10 minutes of training to learn how to disarm a person with a bat much less a woman. Surely these
serve and protect donut munchers have at least a few minutes of empty hand training.
They apparently still use batons in South Korea.
My opinion is the former. I teach womens self defense classes.

Infield fly rule? I never did learn of that nnuance.
My point is that most men even without training should be able to disarm the average woman with a bat or at least not have to shoot them dead.

Normal people (Even nomal LEO’s) would use a taser or other non-lethal means to subdue a crazy woman. But not you.

Two cops who can’t handle a distraught woman with a bat without killing someone need new jobs somewhere else.
