Iran Adds Flying Boats and Small Copters to Its Aerial Swarms
War is Boring ^ | April 16, 2014 | Jassem Al Salami

Two thousand years ago, a Roman legion led by Marcus Licinius Crassus was marching toward Persian lands. Iran, ruled by the Partian Empire, was in no position to defeat this massive attack. Ten thousand soldiers under Iranian general Sourena faced an army of 43,000 well-trained, well-equipped and experienced Roman legionnaires.

............................................................

Taking a lesson from history, they plot asymmetric tactics to hit the Americans where they’re most vulnerable. Iran is prepared to send swarms of cheap, disposable craft to confuse and overwhelm the Pentagon’s much more monolithic naval forces.

The problem for the Iranians is that we have a longer reach.

Good luck with that. I suspect we learned a lot from the USS Cole bombing.

Actually the US Navy should be very worried about the Chinese supplied state of the art shore to ship missiles that the Iranians have deployed to fortify the Persian Gulf. The big blue water ships of the US Navy are very vulnerable in the narrow confines of the Persian Gulf. Highly unlikely that Saudi Arabia will leave Iran’s nuclear facilities intact, functional and unmolested. If shooting starts, the Navy faces a debacle worse than Pearl Harbor in about fifteen minutes. Obama ought to withdraw those ships.

The Navy doesn’t have to fire a multi-million dollar SM-2 or SM-6 at an incoming prop plane. They just might leave that to the 5” gun or the CIWS. They can also quad pack evolved sea sparrows into a single VLS cell. That gives them a tremendous number of (relatively) cheap missiles that are more than capable of taking out a prop plane 1 for 1.

” disposable craft to confuse and overwhelm the Pentagon’s much more monolithic naval forces”

Akin to bringing targets to the shooting range on a Saturday.

Iran has also shown pictures of its giant war robots that can easily defeat the American robots depicted in the movie Pacific Rim.

Nuke all Muslim cities.

Make the rubble bounce by nuking twice.

Personally I think these would be VERY effective as an asymmetric unit.

The biggest mistake made in the kamikazi attacks was trying to attack too many American ships at the same time.

If they had focused on one ship at a time before moving on to the next one, they would have sunk a LOT more ships.

I suspect these Iranian “martyrs” will make the same mistake.
