A new bill introduced in Congress looks to ban states from implementing their own labeling laws when it comes to food containing genetically engineered ingredients.

According to Reuters, US Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) introduced the legislation on Wednesday, which is intended to head off bills in about 24 states that would require companies to inform customers when their food is produced using genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Titled the “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act,” the proposal would forbid states from enacting such proposals....

Joseph Farrell comments on his website:

"But what of the Congressional action? I suspect, this too, is but a stage in a wider and probably secret agenda cooked up in the frankenfood boardrooms of these hideous companies, who, confronted with growing market opposition, are simply resorting to the coercive power of the state to deny people and states reasonable access to information concerning the food they’re putting into their bodies. They won’t stop there… It is entirely possible, given then non-responsiveness and non-representative nature of the USSA’s governmental institutions and their inability to represent the people, but only too big to fail and too big to jail corporations and banks, that these corporations will seek the ultimate in their mercantilist dreams: a requirement that farmers grow nothing but their “scientifically tested and safe” products. By seeking such legislation, they’ve already declared themselves against freedom, and they won’t stop with a prohibition on labeling."/

Frankenfood may or may not be any riskier than what Mother Nature dishes up herself now.

But this problem here seems to be a symptom of a Frankengovernment.

It’s about 4 times bigger (and tax hungry) than it needs to be.

What keeps a company that produces a non-GMO food product to simply state so on the packaging? That would be all that’s needed for those who care to have this choice. If you don’t care, then no biggie.

They’ll probably come up with restrictions for that.

There’s nothing wrong with forcing a company who labels their food “100% natural ingredients” or “all natural”...from also stating that, well, er, it IS GMO.

The states have a right to demand labeling, even though there’s no evidence genetic modification produces any ill effects. Every single food we eat is “genetically modified”.

Therein lies the difficulty. FedGov inc. has way too much control over packaging. I'd be willing to bet that there are already regulations that prohibit a company from saying that their stuff is non-GMO.
