Police: Student ate more pot than recommended

DENVER (AP) - A Wyoming college student who jumped to his death at a Denver hotel had eaten more of a marijuana cookie than was recommended by a seller, police records show - a finding that comes amid increased concern about the strength of popular pot edibles after Colorado became the first state to legalize recreational marijuana.

Levy Thamba Pongi, 19, consumed more than one cookie purchased by a friend - even though a store clerk told the friend to cut each cookie into six pieces and to eat just one piece at a time, said the reports obtained Thursday.

Pongi began shaking, screaming and throwing things around a hotel room before he jumped over a fourth-floor railing into the hotel lobby March 11. An autopsy report listed marijuana intoxication as a "significant contributing factor" in the death.

Marijuana cookies and other edibles have become increasingly popular since Colorado allowed people 21 and over to buy recreational marijuana this year at regulated stores. Federal authorities don't regulate the edibles because marijuana remains illegal under federal law.

I think this foray into the world of legalized pot will only lead to more trouble. We’ll see more deaths like this one. Plus, it causes brain damage. Another study was released this week, showing that the parts of the brain responsible for memory and motivation are damaged by marijuana use.

Once more studies are published, that whole myth about pot being safe will evaporate... except among dedicated pot-heads.

Back in the day, I’ve seen brownies lay out some pretty hard-core smokers.

I’ve heard the kids now sell them here in Hoosierville for about $10 a brownie

No problem. Think of it as evolution in action.

Don’t care.

The deaths and damage pot causes are not as bad as damage done by cops kicking down doors (esp. WRONG doors) and paying to warehouse these people and their suppliers in prisons.

Freedom has risks. I’m willing to live with ‘em.

The only role pot played in this fellow’s death was slowing his ability to flap his arms fast enough to sufficiently enable him to slow his rate of decent....

You know life is getting weird when there are recommended amounts of marijuana being advised openly.

Funny..if this goes true to American justice system form

..the potheads family will sue the dealer and get a larger settlement. .financially breaking the dealer.

so dealers, supplier, growthers, the whole supply chain, will needed to start carrying insurance, have truth in packaging and other regulations driving up the costs of legal pot..

so to keep cost down you will then see bootleg or black market pot...ie illegal legal pot..

and then we are back to square one with a new government war on illegal (legal) drugs...

which was the Libertarian argument for legalizing drug in the first place..to end the government usless war on drugs
