Police: Student ate more pot than recommended

DENVER (AP) - A Wyoming college student who jumped to his death at a Denver hotel had eaten more of a marijuana cookie than was recommended by a seller, police records show - a finding that comes amid increased concern about the strength of popular pot edibles after Colorado became the first state to legalize recreational marijuana.

Levy Thamba Pongi, 19, consumed more than one cookie purchased by a friend - even though a store clerk told the friend to cut each cookie into six pieces and to eat just one piece at a time, said the reports obtained Thursday.

Pongi began shaking, screaming and throwing things around a hotel room before he jumped over a fourth-floor railing into the hotel lobby March 11. An autopsy report listed marijuana intoxication as a "significant contributing factor" in the death.

Marijuana cookies and other edibles have become increasingly popular since Colorado allowed people 21 and over to buy recreational marijuana this year at regulated stores. Federal authorities don't regulate the edibles because marijuana remains illegal under federal law.

Gee...would ever have seen this coming? You suckers who fell for the leftist cry of "medical" marijuana are seeing the end result in Colorado. Basically they're sacrificing the mental and physical health and stability of our youth on the altar of profiting from pot.

“Who knew there was a recommended daily allowance? /s”

Yeah, and I wonder where it fits into the food pyramid, or whatever shape they’re using these days?

In other words, the same thing that is now the case with alcohol.

The article says he at "more than one" cookie, and the recommended dose was 1/6 of a cookie. That means he took at least 12 times the recommended dose.

If it had been alcohol instead of pot he'd have been dead before he got the chance to jump.

There was plenty going on in that room, it seems, but THAT wasn't pot that did that. There's lots more recreational chemistry going on.

Duuuuuude, they said you can't eat too much of that stuff.

Oh wow, mannnnn.

Does that mean, like, to not over do it, or did they mean you can eat as much as you want?

When I was in college there were no issues in regard to pot.

But I guess we have to consider that the current youth is stupider.

Or maybe when it is illegal, only the wilier folks sneak around and use it. Thus the dumber and gullible are not able to partake, at least not for long before they are caugh.

Fruits and vegetables, I reckon.

Thank goodness the government is working to protect us by banning e-cigarettes.

“But pot is harmless!!!” say all the stoners.

Well... So what if it isn't? I've never been one to argue that pot was a good thing. I say... So what even if it's harmful? Why does that give the government some free pass? I've seen pot harm the lives of plenty of people. That's not reason enough to make it illegal. More to the point, it's not reason enough to trample on the constitution like the "war on drugs" has done.

What is the recommended dose of alcohol?

The closest I could find was a small glass of wine. Twelve of those? I would be tipsy but I don't think I would be dead.

No... Just weeding out the stupid ones. Not everybody gets to be an astronaut when they grow up. The world needs ditch diggers too.

You expect a stoned guy to do math involving fractions?

Someone with munchies is supposed to eat a sixth of a cookie and stop? LOL

Seriously, eat 1 sixth of a cookie. That is impossible even without the munchies.

I assumed a BAC of .08 was the maximum recommended dose. 12x that would be a BAC of .96, which looks to be well into the lethal dose range.

A dedicated alcoholic who's built up a tolerance might survive it, but I think it would kill most people outright.

To be honest it seem to be, the optimum state to be with the state, is just barely illegal..

because it keeps all the lawyer out of the mix on the civil side trying to take a cut of the legal profits,

and it keeps the bureaucrats out trying to regulate a legal business..

and the rest if its just some tick tack misdemeanor...if your cool their cool...

being slightly illegally is the better then insurance. .because insurance is for people doing legal things to keep other people taking a bit of your ass legally

Yeah, you’re right...maybe pot should be legalized in every state. I’m certainly for eliminating any laws against possession for whatever reason. And if every state legalized it, I’m not sure what harm would be done. But please don’t try to tell me pot is harmless. It’s a drug. Like any drug, it can have ill effects as researchers are finding every year.

“A gramme is better than a damn”

“..there is always soma, delicious soma, half a gramme for a half-holiday, a gramme for a week-end, two grammes for a trip to the gorgeous East, three for a dark eternity on the moon...”

“The day’s soma ration,” Bernard answered rather indistinctly; for he was masticating a piece of Benito Hoover’s chewing-gum. “They get it after their work’s over. Four half-gramme tablets. Six on Saturdays.”

Unfortunately, as a society, we are on the hook for supporting all those who become permanently brain damaged as a result of pot use. The evidence suggests that even a small use can cause permanent brain damage.

If we just look at cost-effectiveness, which is more costly: providing lifetime support to those who destroyed their own brains, or enforcing drug laws and keeping it illegal? I do not know this answer--it is probably worth a study or two to answer.
