A North Chicago family is mourning the death of a 15-year-old boy who died early Thursday after being shot in the head and left in an alley, said the victims mother, Roxanne Beech.
Travon Beech was an eighth-grader at Neal Math & Science Academy who had enjoyed basketball and football until recently, when he started staying out late and getting in trouble, she said.

He may have flunked one grade. I flunked third grad.
I thought I knew everything at about 19. That’s when it peaked and started dissipating. I remember literally thinking I was perfect, and if everyone was like me, the world would be perfect. I learned a lot when I looked into the perfect law of liberty.
As someone already pointed out, we white folks have some pretty terrible names too. Hunter, Trapper, Brason, Grayson, Tanner, Madison, Dyson. They’re all Pajama Boy names.
They all assume that these originate from happy Africa.
Bristol. Piper. Track. Willow. Trig.
Me too - most were in 10th and some, due to birthdays might have ended 9th. My birthday fell late in the year so I turned 16 before the Holiday Season.
Yep...and “Trapper” would fit right in!
Being shot in the head normaly means he was upfront and personal with his killer.
What’s an eigth grader hanging around a stone cold killer ?
Birds of a feather ?
I'm sure Trayvon's Dad was doing his utmost to keep his son on the straight and narrow.
Several of my grandsons friends are almost 14 and in the seventh grade. They all go a private church school, are very polite, do well in school and great kids. Their parents chose to start them a year later. Great idea for boys IMO, particularly if they have a female teacher who has no male children or ever had a brother. None of these boys are on ADHD meds, unlike too many of the students in public schools who are 14 year olds in the eighth grade.
No mourning for a dead tray table.
