I think it could have easily stopped if David Koresh would have talked with authorities.

The ATF came in to kill people. There was no reason to conduct an armed assault. They could have detained him in town on almost any day.

The Branch Davidians had a couple of AR-15 autosears for which they had not bought the $200 tax stamps.

79 people were murdered over a few hundred dollars of unpaid taxes.

Which I understand was never actually PROVEN, BTW. The NRA tried to get hold of the guns that were supposedly converted to have them examined by an independent organization, Chuck the Schmuck Schumer threw a hissy fit, the guns were impounded, and never physically inspected. So the story goes.

Do you remember that the original reason given by the feds for their attack on the Branch Davidians was due to reports of child abuse? I have never trusted the later excuse that they violated the NFA, especially since the feds razed (bulldozed) the "compound" shortly after the attack, effectively destroying any evidence not destroyed in the fire.
