The dog “approached” him in this account. The original news release said it, “attacked,” him. I know because I saw the news clip which had some five year olds playing with the big, scary dog in the background...
Seems some how appropriate.
Note to Andy: Don’t let Barney put the bullit in his sidearm.
Stain removal @ the dry cleaners was probably costly!
Shooting yourself while drawing a gun probably means this deputy has had bad habits for a while and his firearms instructors haven't been watching when he is at the range.
Evidently a dog is not threat, but an armed Deputy is.
I think the dog lucked out.
...and then the dog ate him, right?.....right?????......No, you say??? how odd. I would have thought the big vicious dog would have attacked and eaten him. But noooooo
A big, vicious attack dog would LOVE the smell of fresh Deputy blood, wouldn’t it?

After applying Occam’s Razor the following materialized: “Shooting yourself while drawing a gun probably means you can’t fix stupid.
Stupid IS forever.
There are people that you take to the range and work on muscle memory for 6 weeks and they keep those good habits for a lifetime. There are others that dump all those good habits right away. The first group don’t shoot themselves or others accidentally.
Finally, some dog justice...No bite??? So the cop was going to kill an innocent dog...I can’t believe they allow these nutjobs to carry loaded weapons...

There is always the possibility DumbCop was trying for his Dog Shooter badge and attempted a task beyond his mental/physical capability.
With the advent of cheap laser training devices like the little Laserlyte barrel insert thingie, anyone can now practice at home. For the non-professional shooter, it is the best invention since sliced bread.
The stupid, clumsy, cowardly S.O.B. tried to shoot his mother? Or was Precious his aunt?
When I was 10, my Dad taught me to field strip a 1911. He showed me, then had me hunker down (newspaper on the floor to make it more filed-like) to try to repeat. My butt hurt, then my nose hurt - he gave me a short kick for not checking the weapon prior to working on it. Today, he might get in trouble for "imprinting" the lesson, but it's over 50 years ago and I have never touched a weapon without checking it and treating it like it was ready to fire.
Yes. The dogs finally win one.
