Johnny Depp Bombs in “Transcendence” with Shocking $11.5 Mil weekend

Johnny Depp’s “Transcendence” bombed last night as expected, taking in just $11.5 million. That’s a disaster for a $150 million movie.

This is Depp’s second major flop at the box office, following the catastrophic “Lone Ranger.” And now this poses an important question: can Depp open a movie that isn’t “Pirates of the Caribbean”? The answer is No. He’s made zillions from the Disney adventure movies.

Let me get this straight. Some idiot out there thought that Easter weekend would be a great time to debut a movie about man creating life and the resurrection into artificial intelligence?

If I was an investor in this movie, I would be suing producers to prevent this from being released Easter weekend. Heck, it is almost a sure money loser being released before late summer after the action movie glut where someone might actually be interested in this type of a story line.

But to release it EASTER weekend? I know many in Hollywood have zero respect for Christianity, but eghads, that's just pouring money down the drain for no good reason.

It all starts with the script. I don’t care who is in it. Tell a good story well and they’ll show up. Tell that same story poorly and it bombs.
From what I have heard, the script is terrible.

Amen.

That is why SOME books and SOME music is "classical"--because their story or music withstands the test of time!

The actual writer was probably replaced by numerous writers hired by the studio.

Hollyweird never releases ticket sale numbers. Would be interesting to see the actual count of butts in the seats compared to past films.

He kinda looks like a transvestite what with all that makeup and jewelery and long hair. Oh, btw he is getting married to a lesbian actress named Amber Heard, yep... which means it could be a gay ol wedding : )

I think the very idea of Transcendence in this day age angers people and I’lll tell you why. People the world over have witnessed scientific achievements on a magnitude never seen before and the rate at which they are occurring is accelerating. Many of the areas that they are experimenting in is both frightening and has questionable ethical considerations. The Frankenstein complex sits dormant in our brains as we hear about genetic or brain / control manipulation experimentation. Fears fueled by sci-fi movies about monsters created in labs, military applications to create super solders, robotic technologies to enslave men, etc They are all there and to add fuel to the fire we are seeing life imitate art as we see these very same things come to life right in front of us with drones armed with machine guns, talk of micro computer “enhancements” implanted directly into our own brain stems, and military weaponry that has frightening capabilites, even guns that can shoot around corners, etc...This stuff just isn’t natural. Its not the way God intended us to be and we undertand the motivation to create these types of things have to do with all the wrong reasons; greed, self-gain, self-importance, power, control, etc...all things that in the end result in evil. The other issue is that these types of thoughts lead us even farther own the road to perdition getting increasingly more evil with each step. In a movie like Transcendence the thought is put forward, “what defines who or what is an individual (conscience self-aware entity)? Who gives that individual the right to live or diie and why should that individual be permitted to live?” these are truly dangerous waters to tread in because it implies that someone else has power and control of your life other than God and implies that Man is his own god (and subsequentally has to answer o no one ither than himself and be held accountable)

So I’m sorry if I don’t want to live be 1000 years old on life support by a computer housed in a syntheic body that was not created by my God and I don’t think other God fearing people do either.

“What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” has some moments (but due mostly to Leonardo Decaprio & the woman who played the fat mother).

he’ll probably show up as Moses in a remake of the Ten Commandments.

So shall it be written, so shall it be done...

Actually, with electronic ticketing, it’s impossible for studios to prevent the real box office numbers from coming out. And they’re available a few hours after a movie is released.
