Loch Ness Monster caught on Apple maps?

An Apple maps image of what appears to be a large figure swimming in Scotland’s Loch Ness has reenergized fans of the mythical monster. Two amateur “Nessie” hunters came across the image last year as they scanned smart phone photos from Apple’s satellite map app, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The photo appears to show a shadowy, finned shape, estimated to be 100 feet long, swimming in the waters of the Scottish Highlands. The eagle-eyed enthusiasts alerted the Official Loch Ness Monster Fan Club, whose members have been consulting with experts in a bid to figure out exactly what was caught on film. “Whatever this is, it is under the water and heading south, so unless there have been secret submarine trials going on in the loch, the size of the object would make it likely to be Nessie,” club president Gary Campbell told the paper.

Campbell discounted other possible explanations for the image, including ripples caused by floating debris or a boat. “We’ve shown it to boat experts and they don’t know what it is,” Campbell said. The image is the first supposed Loch Ness Monster spotting in 18 months, representing the longest drought between reported sightings since 1925.

The location was just south of Dores, were beamed from Apple's satellite map app and could only be viewed on some iPads and iPhones

Either Nessie has grown fat or they might have found MH370 :)

One of the big problems you never hear addressed by any of the 'Nessie' hunters is that Loch Ness didn't exist 20,000 years ago. It was frozen solid and under at least a half mile of ice.

It is an interesting photo though.

I wonder if the globull warming alarmists were going nuts warning of the dangers of the end of the ice age 20,000 years ago.

I commented on a Loch Ness thread a while back that it’s interesting that every once in a while something like this crops up. There is quite a cottage industry built around “Nessie” there. Seeems it would be to their advantage to keep folks interested and wanting to visit.

Of course, Apple buys their imagery just like everyone else does, since the phones and pads lack the ability to photograph from space with any good detail. Which means the original of this image exists somewhere. Such imagery is pasted together from many satellite images, and very likely, this is a boat wake, the boat itself obscured by one of the 'seams' that stitch two images together.

In any case, there should be ample press releases out there to show who Apple buys their imagery from, and the company in question likely would be more than willing to release the original image if for no other reason than to capitalize on some free publicity.

I’m with BulletBobCo. Looks like a boat. You can actually see a rectangle within the wakes.

I doubt that any of the inhabitants 20,000 years ago even considered that they might be living upon a globe.
