Justina Pelletier’s Father Says Her Health is Failing: “She Doesn’t Have Much Longer”
LIFE NEWS ^ | Steven Ertelt

On Good Friday, the Pelletier family delivered over 700 “Get Well” cards for Justina Pelletier, the sick teenager who state officials wrongfully took custody of away from her parents.

The Pelletier family was not allowed to visit their daughter on Easter Sunday. The news comes after attorneys working with her family released a letter Justina reportedly wrote saying she is not being treated well.

Today, pro-life attorney Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel told LifeNews that Justina’s health continues to deteriorate.

justinapelletier3“On Good Friday, Justina Pelletier received cards adorned with encouraging scripture and powerful messages of hope from concerned Americans across the country,” he said. “Thank you to all of you who participated!”

“Lou Pelletier, Justina’s father, told us that Justina saw the mountain of cards and read several of the messages to her. She is encouraged with this amazing outpouring of love and support. I must tell you that Anita and I were deeply moved as we read through hundreds of strong personalized messages,” Staver added.

But Staver said Mr. Pelletier had a very somber assessment of Justina’s condition following the family’s visitation time this weekend, which miraculously did include a last-minute approved Easter Sunday visit.

Staver said: He believes…“Justina is in a world of hurt. She is physically and mentally dying. She doesn’t have much longer.” He wonders how much more DCF “abuse” she’ll be able to endure. He contends that Justina is still undergoing behavior modification therapies, which includes drug-induced treatments. He knows that “Justina is being tortured.”

“Since Massachusetts Juvenile Court Judge Joseph Johnston remanded Justina into permanent DCF custody, she has only once returned to Tufts Medical Center where she was receiving effective treatments for her rare disprder. Dr. Korman, Justina’s original attending physician, is calling for weekly treatments to restore her health. The DCF has refused Dr. Korman’s request, countering with proposed monthly visits,” Staver said in his email update. “We all fear the DCF’s limited course of treatments at Tufts will prove to be too little too late.”

“Justina is being housed in a Wayside Youth and Family Facility in Framingham, MA. The facility allows family visitation for any occupant – except Justina because of a DCF mandate. Therefore, Justina is transported to a DCF office for the one-hour weekly visitation with her family, which is overseen by 2-3 DCF officials and an armed police officer,” he continued. “Due to these overbearing DCF visitation restrictions, the Pelletiers must complete their one-hour weekly visit with Justina and then remove anything they carry into the visitation. That includes the hundreds of “Get Well” cards that we sent to her – and the ones still to be delivered. Many of those cards will be awaiting Justina when, prayerfully, she is able to return home.” “For now, Justina remains a ward of the state. This experience has left the Pelletier family to endure the trauma of their daughter being virtually imprisoned by the DCF while she suffers extreme emotional distress and deteriorating health,” Staver added.

“We are exhausting all legal means to get Justina returned to her family and given proper medical care in a timely manner before Justina’s health deteriorates any further,” he said.

The note she wrote to her parents is heartbreaking.

“They hurt me all the time push me all the time and more,” the note says. “They do not let me sleep vary [sic] much. Hury [sic]!”

Thanks for the info. Why would the hospital intervene like this?

Somataform disease is actually the same thing as Munchausens or Munchausens by proxy?

What information is being held back?

Not everybody has a positive experience with Boston Children's Hospital.

You need to ask the five other families who recently lost custody of their children there. There are a number of lawsuits pending against the hospital.

That’s what I heard her father say in an interview with Glenn Beck.

“Not everybody has a positive experience with Boston Children’s Hospital.”

I realize that but this incident absolutely astonishes me. Things may have changed considerably since I used their services.

I just pray that poor girl will be okay.

The doctor, judge(s) and lawyer(s) need to be held accountable. Unto the seventh generation.

She will probably never be okay. She has been ripped from her family, from her parents and her sisters. She is allowed to see her family for one hour a week - under armed guard. Medical care has been withheld from her, education has been withheld from her and religious services have been withheld. All her support systems have been taken away. She cannot even receive her get well cards. Her original doctor wants to see her every week and they won’t allow it. Why not let her go to church? Why not provide education? Why put her in a psych ward and think she’s going to be okay after more than a year of this prison?

BTW the original physician who started this entire mess decided during the intake interview that her problem was psychological, not medical, in spite of the fact that doctors at Tufts who had been treating her for a couple of years disagreed. That physician, I think, was a psychiatrist or neurologist who was just out of his residency. As I said there are at least five other cases pending in which Children’s hospital and the state took custody away from the parents.

The name of the original attending at Tufts is Dr. Mark Korson, not Korman. She had seen Dr. Alejandro Flores, a pediatric gastroenterologist at Tufts who left Tufts and is now at Boston Children’s. When Justina got sick her parents called Dr. Korson who told them to take her to BCH to see Dr. Flores. Her parents took her to the ER at BCH who didn’t let her see Dr. Flores, but instead assigned her to the other doctor who diagnosed the somataform disorder. The parents said they wanted to take her back to Tufts and BCH wouldn’t let them.

Mitochondrial disorder is difficult to diagnose and treat. The patient needs to have a muscle biopsy and undergo genetic testing as well as the parents have to undergo genetic testing to aid in the diagnosis. Treatment includes vitamin, mineral and enzyme therapy, a good diet and physical activity as tolerated to build up stamina. A major problem that people with mito have is fatigue.

I transcribe dictations for Dr. Korson and know a lot about mito disorder.

“Munchhausen by proxy” is a psychological pathology of the caretaker, NOT the patient. It’s where the caretaker of the patient does things to simulate sickness in the patient, forcing unneeded medical treatments. MA and the Dr in charge at BCH claims that there’s not anything wrong with the girl.

However Tufts University hospital diagnosed her AND HER OLDER SISTER with mitochondrial syndrome. The problem was that a doctor who had treated her for something else moved from Tufts to BCH, and when her Dr at Tufts felt that she needed to see the other Dr, her parents took her to BCH, and that’s when things went all to hell.

I’ve heard that BCH has not let her former Dr that she was sent to see for an unrelated illness even treat her.

This girl has deterorated incredibly in the last year. A year ago she was ice skating, now she’s confined to a wheel chair.

I thought kids could retain their own lawyer these days? (say, in a custody dispute) Why can’t she do that? Or is she old enough to ask to be declared an emancipated minor? She is probably too weak and tired now to pursue these avenues, but it’s a shame she can’t push for legal representation for herself.

I hope she lives long enough to get out of there (if her parents don’t spring her first) and sue the hell out of that hospital.

Deval needs to know that if she dies it will destroy him politically. This story is known by enough people so that it cannot be pushed under the rug.

Will the judge charge the parents with murder or some other charge?

Even if you went with the theory that it was the parents fault (Munchhausen's) it makes no sense that other family, friends or even a dreaded foster family couldn't be involved. Why can't a relative, accused of nothing, assume custody and visit? Why are her sisters insistent there was never any abuse (even the one diagnosed with Mito herself and doing well under treatment) not allowed to visit more often, I believe they are adults.

None of this makes sense. Is Alan Dershowitz helping out or not? At that Wayside place she is being housed-- I'd really be afraid for her. But also I'd look for someone on the inside to secretly document her story. There are people that work at these facilities that don't do it for the money. I'd try to secretly meet with one of them. My 20 year old niece worked at a long term care facility and was brave enough to expose abuse.

If she dies Massachusetts has her blood on their hands..they are murderers..and if people think its just Justina they ought to think again, it starts with her but with Obamacare, this can happen to ANYONE..the Govt can just come and take your child, truly sickening and downright scary

Her doctor sent her to another hospital for some testing.

No. She had the flu and her family took her to BCH for that and nothing else.
