Justina was being treated for a gastrointestinal disorder by her MD at Tuft’s University. Her doctor sent her to another hospital for some testing. This particular hospital has a number of specialists studying somatoform disease, formerly called Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome. The brand new doctor at this new hospital decided that doctors at Tuft’s were wrong and it was all in her head. They had CPS kidnap the child. That’s pretty much where it still stands.
Somataform disease is actually the same thing as Munchausens or Munchausens by proxy?
No. She had the flu and her family took her to BCH for that and nothing else.
Mr. Pelletier hasn’t done himself any favors by going off on people, etc. Do I understand his frustration? Of course, but still.
As I understand it, the Tufts treatment included some surgery. People with imaginary illnesses don’t go so far as have surgery. It’s as if Tufts and BCH are treating two different people.
