Skip to comments.Should Cats or Dogs Sleep in Bed with You? We Ask Vet Professionals What They Do

It's a topic so divisive that it has been known to be a significant factor in choosing a spouse: Do you let your pet sleep in your bed with you?
In some households, it's the norm. All pets are allowed everywhere, all the time. In others, it's no pets on any furniture, ever. But in many, the answer lies somewhere in between: Perhaps the cat or small dog is given a spot to snuggle, but the Great Dane has to remain on the floor.
Many factors come into play, of course. Some pet owners suffer from allergies and sleeping with a face full of fur only exacerbates them, or maybe they can't deal with the dirt a dog would track onto the duvet. But plenty of pet owners - and veterinary professionals - can't imagine drifting off to sleep without their kitty or Cocker Spaniel cuddled up nearby.

No one sleeps in my bed unless I’m married to it.
But given the rapid change in marriage laws, I may just soon be able to marry Mr. Whiskers.
(I’m so confused!)
As long as they keep my feet warm...
“Tell ‘em about the twinkie, Igon...”
I've got cats. There is no "let."
I cant tell when the cat gets onto the bed it like a feather weight
5AM is a dif story,I walks on my back legs head and all else
I’ve never fallen asleep with any dogs next to me but I sure as hell have woken up with a few!

I’ll bet they were foxes when you went to bed...
It’s amazing how liquor can transform things.
Bulldog (100 lbs) gets to sleep in bed.
Mastiff (205 lbs) does not.
Shadow and Bobbie (the former Miss Hissy Slashy) sleep on the
bed with us. Lucas sleeps in a heated cat bed in the living room.
He doesn’t get along with the girls very well. There are no fights
or mayhem. They just avoid each other. They’re all adults.
On a cold night, they keep me warm.
And they have come to appreciate the Teddy-bear-approach-to-being-a-cat
Also, my cats like to kill flying insects like mosquitos. So having them near me will keep me from getting bitten while I am sleeping.
