I question the accuracy of this map. There is definitely a Dodger fan in VA as well as a Mariners fan...

I like to say that I cheer for the Cubs and whomever’s beating the White Sox.

Please don’t be offended; I also prefer the Tribune to the Sun-Times.

Trying to figure out which team wears pink.

Whoever they are, they have Alaska, Utah and Hawaii locked up.

But I was happy to see the Giants still have a loyal fan base in the Aleutians.

I was just amazed that the Yankees have so many fans all over the country! In just about every state, except Minnesota or Wisconsin, one of those states, can’t remember which. Go figure.

It looks like the Giants and Angels winning the World Series in the recent past has really shrunk the geographic scope of Dodgers fans.

Fairweather fans are increasing in number.

The days when you simply were a fan of your father’s team or picked a team by the time you were 12 and were loyal for life are over.

Sounds like you're from the Tampa area.We vacation fairly regularly in Sarasota and,as a result,I've seen "The Trop" many, many times from I-275.A rather interesting building from that vantage point. Is it as impressive on the inside?

Yeah, Tiger fans would be an enormous blob if you included the Canadian fans.

Tigers on top of the White Sox right now. 7-4 bottom of the 8th.

Yes, it's a very interesting map and has done a great job of keeping me diverted from real work this afternoon. :)

I wonder if a similar map has been created for NFL teams? As an aside to dfwgator, how 'bout that hat trick yesterday with the big time pro teams of the Metroplex. Mavs, Stars and Rangers all won on the same day, a rather rare thing I surmise.

;-) Love our (L)Astros!

I'm a baseball fan, so I don't mind cheering for the Cubs when they're on at the bar. They're fun to watch, always "rebuilding." ;)

That being said, I was born on the South Side, so my loyalty was pre-determined.

How BOUT them Braves.

If you poke around the West, you still find fans out there.

When WTBS(now TBS) showed the Braves non stop in the 80, 90s and 00, they created a GREAT fanbase.

If it’s as inaccurate for the rest of the country as it is for Iowa, it’s just made-up.

Far more Cardinals (and Royals) fans in Iowa than indicated here.

But, if accurate, it proves MLB idiocy as the Twins, Brewers, Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals and Cubs all claim Iowa as home territory, most with no fan base of support.

I am amazed the Braves share isn’t bigger, but then again, TBS hasn’t really shown the games in 10 years. If a survey like this was taken in the 80s I think 1/4 of the country would have said Braves. At least everything from Virginia (former home of the AAA Richmond Braves) south to Florida and west to Texas.

I’m half surprised the Braves don’t show up near Portland or Utah, given the Dale Murphy influence.

Odd game ending call today. The ump called interference on the batter. The interference was the batter stepping in front of the catcher after he was called out.

You have to zoom in to find the Mets fans.

You have to zoom in to find the White Sox fans.

It looks like the Yankees outdo the Mets everywhere in the New York area.

I bet I've seen more Mets caps outside the area, though: people around the country who love to root for underdogs.

And then there's this: Yankees Caps Are Popular Among Criminals

shows Astro country being a lot bigger....also Oakland A’s...

Might there be some Yankee bias here since it’s the NY Times?
