Will to kill When I wrote those 3 points about what the guy with TT gun did and why he did not shoot the other man, there needs probably (but I never know for sure) to be number 4 and that is “he did not want to kill the man”.
Yes, even in life threatening situations lots of people simply would choose not to kill, even if that means death for them. I believe it is something that some people simply can not do. They are not capable of that, to take some other mans life.
Maybe it looks that this is not connected with this topic about stopping power, but it is. So while choosing what weapon is good for you, you need to ask yourself “am I capable of taking other mans life?”. Any hesitation can kill you when it matters, whatever caliber you have.
Lesson here is, instead of researching “tacticool” stuff online, learning about survival and going down to shooting range and finding gun with common round in the area that one shoots well with is what makes sense. The gun you know how to use best has biggest stopping power.

And, don't forget you have to have it with you to use it.
The are folks who have permits...and hand cannons they leave on the nightstand when they go out. Or the glove compartment.
I'd druther be carrying my Sig .380 than leaving my Barretta Model 96 at home.
That’s why my favorite is a .38 Super... .357 ballistics with 9mm recoil.
Many would not handle the recoil of the 44, and you are right, probably miss.
I like a 45, not the gun that a 44 revolver is, but it will stop a man, and I would do what it takes...I haven’t, but I could shot another man if it were necessary to defend my loved ones and my property (Castle). And as for stopping power, a 22 or a 9 mm also has stopping power...just make it a well placed shot.
But better still, a 12 ga with ‘00’. They come in, won’t get passed the front door...

I know, you are correct. An animal is nothing like a man. It shouldn’t be unless you’re a sociopath. My thinking is just muscle memory of aiming at center of mass and trying not to jerk rounds all over the place.
Using a timer or the rapidity of movement helps but you are correct that nothing simulates real combat.
