ELK CITY, Okla. - An online firestorm over a youth baseball teams fundraiser, the prize an AR 15 rifle.
During practice Catch cultivated his curve ball while Tayte worked on his fielding. They were getting ready for a big Saturday game
But the topic sparking the most conversation is the teams fundraiser. No baked brownies or lemonade stands, the Elk City Outlaws are raffling off an AR 15 riffle.
Concerned parents called NewsChannel 4, others quickly showed outrage online.
One person wrote: Why in the world would you have 6, 7, 8 & 9 year olds selling raffle tickets for an assault rifle?
Others said it sends the wrong message and its teaching them its Ok to raffle off semi-automatic machine guns that were made to kill men
Some even questioned the parents sanity stating these parents need their heads examined
We caught up with head coach Denny Geno. This is western Oklahoma. Theres a lot of people that carry guns out here and are proud of their guns.
He said most of the people in the area support the idea. If you raise your kid the right way and they understand the safety then I dont think there is a problem with it .
He also clearly explained the rules. It says on the ticket all ATF rules must apply so if they do not qualify they do not win, said Geno.
If they dont pass the background check, they forfeit the prize.
I can see where those parents have concerns especially if they werent brought up around here, said Andy Shelton. Hes Taytes father
For some people guns are just not their thing, but for people out here its a popular sport, hobby and activity that a lot of families enjoy.
That was the sentiment shared around town
Christy Ham said, I ended up getting my son a little bitty 22 when he was four years old. We enjoy guns and teach our kids safety.
As for the team they plan to dust the criticism off their gloves and continue mastering those curve balls and home runs.
I grew up less than 60 miles from Elk City. It was nothing to have a shotgun or rifle on the raffle for school fundraising events.
It was also nothing to have a shotgun in a pickup window rack, unlocked doors, sitting in the high school parking lot all day.
Okies know what to do when verbally attacked by Libtards - they ignore them and keep doing what they want to do - a lesson those in the Eastern Rust Belt might well ponder.
Great Lesson for the Young. No First without the Second.
Me too. That's a terribly sexist statement!
As a kid in East Tennessee, my older brother rode the school bus with his Remington single round .22lr rifle for Rifle Team after school and I carried the box of fifty shells (which box cost all of $.25 for fifty rounds!) sitting in the seat next to him. Brother did not have a case, either. I can still smell the leather of the strap attached to the rifle! He would polish the brass of the hooks used to adjust the length, the night before riding the bus.
Liberals honestly believe guns load and fire themselves. I have seen the reaction when I’ve pulled out my weapon around one. You’d think they were a vampire that was just exposed to the sun. They have been indoctrinated to hate them plain and simple.
Funny how gun crimes increase suddenly when the liberal progressives hate them isn’t it?
Libtards hate guns except when they are watching someone like Machete or Quinton Tarrantino spraying a thousand bullets a second in a shootout or they’re playing a video game where they kill a hundred guys in one round and high five when they shoot a guys head and make it explode like a watermelon with a .50 sniper rifle or sneak up on someone and stab them to death repeatedly then teabag them. HYPOCRITES!
Yes, that's true. It's okay to raffle off a 12 gauge, fully-automatic, pump action Glock AK-47 machine gun made to kill men (and women, and Bambi's Mom, and Bambi). Kids need to learn that firearms are necessary to the security of a free State, and not just fun, and they need to learn it before they are exposed to liberal brainwashing.
When i was a kid, the local Catholic Church used to raffle off a car every year.
Cars kill more people than guns!
Not only that, they pollute the air and increase AGW.
evil, bad, naughty cars! /s
I love these kind of stories...
“No baked brownies or lemonade stands, the Elk City Outlaws are raffling off an AR 15 riffle.”
These kids are learning what it is to be a man and being around something that requires respect and discipline.
I can image in some of the more “progressive” states, the kids may be raffling off Obamacare and using pajama boy ad as the raffle entry. And those kids will be learning how to be a metrosexual.
If their kid doesn't play baseball then just STFU.
Man these pukes are aggravating.
We carried rifles on the bus in New York as well. It wasn’t always a state full of pansy ass liberals.
With apologies to Dr. Zaius;
"New York used to be a paradise. Bloomberg's kind turned it into a wasteland."
Really??? If you are going to open you mouth to protest something at least do not look like the total fool when your words display that you do not know what you are talking about.
Your use of words is a direct contradiction. They demonstrate hysterical dishonesty and lack of rationality in your knowledge and thinking. This shrill outrageous, dishonest, and foolish blast of words does damage to your own cause, so please keep speaking.
People like you motivate many pro gun, pro second amendment to stand up and donate to our cause of supporting our constitution and standing tall for all of our constitutional rights.
I use this irrational rant as a clear example of gun-ignorant, fact-ignorant emotionally unstable people who scream in fear are determined to confiscate all of our firearms.
We do a lot of fund raising and I'd bet a hundred dollar bill that the raffle was very successful.
That'd be the wrong message, all right. "...semi-automatic machine guns that were made to kill men"????
Well, the ground squirrels and gophers and prairie dogs will be celebrating...
