Long Beach Police officers had an "obstructed view" when they opened fire on a man who was allegedly running from a standoff Sunday, according to a press release issued Monday.

"Long Beach officers, who were located on the beach, east of the foot of the stairs with an obstructed view due to palm trees and shrubbery, heard gunshots from above and saw the suspect running toward the populated beach area," the press release stated. "The suspect failed to surrender and after officers observed him reaching or his waist band, an officer involved shooting occurred."

“”The suspect failed to surrender and after officers observed him reaching or his waist band,”

Sounds like a simple case of suicide by cop. If you are going to be in a standoff and going to reach for stuff, be prepare to be baptized by lead.

Actually sounds like someone running from a shooter only to be cut down by the police. Sad. And I may be wrong.

More Fullerton Police Academy graduates. And they didn’t have to go far to attend.

I used to ride my bike right past there every day. A guy was killed in a drive-by right behind my place. One Sunday afternoon while watching football, I had my patio door open and heard a police radio. I stepped outside and looked down to see a cop draped across the top of his patrol car, gun drawn. He looked up at me and waved at me to go back inside. I’m glad I’m out of the LBC.

They all gave the obligatory “I thought he was reaching for something and I was scared for my life” routine.

Roid rage high fives fella's!

Now go shave your heads again, shoot some dogs, beat your wives, drive drunk, and enjoy the high for now.

For one day soon, the consequences will be brutal.

So running away is now “suicide by cop”? There is video, he didn’t “reach into his waist band”, and the cops are lying.

It’s getting harder for cops to get away with murder these days with everyone toting a video camera in their shirt pocket.

From the article:

The incident began about 2:45 p.m. Sunday at a Target store in the 1600 block of South Alameda Street in Compton where sheriff's deputies were assisting security officers in detaining a man who allegedly tried to commit a robbery at the store, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a press release.

As deputies assisted security officers, the man "pulled out a large pair of scissors" - apparently garden shears - from his waistband, then fled to a SUV and drove away from the area with authorities in pursuit

The SUV came to a stop in the 1800 block of East Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach, where deputies said the man refused to come out of the vehicle. About 15 minutes later, the man got out of the SUV allegedly holding a large wooden stick.

In an attempt to detain the uncooperative suspect, the press release said, deputies used a stun bag, but it had no effect on the man, and he again ran from deputies

Witnesses told NBC4 that the suspect did not appear to be aggressive

Not aggressive? Sad to see the guy lose his life but he was given multiple opportunities to surrender.

Don't blame the cops on this one.

“It keeps happening.”

This is why when I hear about a cop getting shot, I really could care less... Live by the sword, die by the sword.

A witness stated he was reaching for a puppy.

People have already chosen security over privacy. They have elected to have militarized police force to enforce law and order, by any means. The system has been established and people will have to tow the line.

So, do not screw up or you will be cut down. I am sure vast majority of the people will not lose sleep over those killed in police encounter.

It would be even harder for them to get away with murder if everyone was carrying a gun in their pocket.

Long Beach is going to be writing a huge check. This type of case was settled by the U.S. Supreme Court in Garner v. Tenn., 471 U.S. 1 (1985)

Here is the link to the Garner case; and it is taught in every law enforcement use of force training class in the country.
