After Right-To-Work, 80% of Mich. Health-Care Workers Desert Union

Having won the right to decide for themselves whether to join unions, Michigan workers are opting to desert an organization that many never wanted to join in the first place: the SEIU.

Michigan voters put an end to forced unionization by approving right-to-work in the 2012 election. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder also signed a bill that ended a fraudulent dues-skimming scheme, perpetrated by the SEIU, which had allowed the union to collect $34 million in mandatory dues out of the Medicaid checks of unknowing home-based caregivers.

No longer obligated to pay money to the SEIU, 80 percent of home-based caregivers have left the union

The thing I find most pleasing about this is the thought of the Democrats going without those “voluntary” contributions from the union members. I’d be sick if I were a forced union member and was watching my money used to support everything I don’t believe in......not that I expect much more from the Republicans.

Terry Bowman is a Union Conservative running for the John Dingell seat as a republican. He was a big supporter of RTW in Michigan.

11% believe Elvis is still (79 years old)
25% of people are truthers
36% believe UFOs are piloted by extraterrestrial beings

Use that information to guage the midset of the 20% who opted to belong to the SEIU

why is Gov. Scott Walker slated for a tight race for all he’s done in actions to get that state on solid ground?

It won't be that tough. Mary Burke is self-funding, but will NOT come out in favor of repeal of Act 10.

Besides the Madison state gov workers and the teachers' unions, you have the regular labor folks (Act 10 did nothing about private unions) and the large U of Wi operation. Throw in a bunch of feminazis and moral relativists and race hustlers, and you have a closer race. Besides running daddy's bicycle operation, Burke had a post in the Doyle admin and a school board in Madison post. Count me underwhelmed.

That’s going to be a tough one. I haven’t heard one single peep from any of these guys working here about opting out. Not one.

Democrats are anti-choice. This is a proven fact.

“Michigan voters put an end to forced unionization by approving right-to-work in the 2012 election.”

That isn’t quite true. The voters rejected adding forced unionism to the state constitution, but they never voted on RTW.

RTW was passed by the state legislature.
