Efrem Zimbalist Jr., who portrayed the indefatigable Inspector Lewis Erskine on the long-running U.S. television series "The F.B.I.", died on Friday at the age of 95, according to media reports.

Zimbalist died of natural causes at his home in Solvang, California, his daughter, actress Stephanie Zimbalist, and his son Efrem Zimbalist III, said in a statement, Hollywood trade magazine Variety and other media reported.

"A devout Christian, he actively enjoyed his life to the last day, showering love on his extended family, playing golf, and visiting with close friends," the statement said, according to Variety.

When I was a kid, we used to sing, “77 Sunset Strip....pardon me, lady, I see your slip...”

That is top-notch humor when you are six years old.

Edd Byrnes has turned out to be something of a jerk in his old age.

Anyway, it’s good to know that a fine individual like Efrem Zimbalist Jr. enjoyed such a long life.

Hard not to like Stephanie. I have the autographed Steele series book and some theatre stuff she signed that got thrown in to my surprise.

He was also great as Alfred on Batman TAS.

RIP Mr. Zimbalist.

His father, Efrem Sr., was one of the top violinists in the 1920s and later the director of Curtis Institute in Philly, and was one of the judges at Aeolian Hall in February 1925 when Paul Whiteman organized the "What is American Music?" competition, where 22 entries from American composers were debuted--#21 was George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. Jr. thought about following his father's footsteps, but decided he liked performing drama better than performing music--and the same thing happened to Jr's daughter Stephanie, who went to Juilliard but ended up on stage and screen, which she does to this day.

Efrem, after you lay your trophies at His feet, when you get a chance, say hello to my parents for me; they loved you in The FBI. Tell them He still has work for me here, but I'll be there when it's done.

For some reason I would always mix up Efrem Zimbalist with John Forsyth who died a few years ago at 92.

"theme song"

When someone mentions 77 Sunset Strip, I'll bet every person of a certain age has the theme run through their heads and then click their fingers.

Some years ago I was watching a documentary on tv about early cop shows, and someone mentioned the show. I started singing the theme out loud, and when I got to the part where they click their fingers, my wife clicked hers. She grew up in England where the show was popular in syndication.

Yes, there were quite a few ribald playground ditties I heard on my school playground which would have earned some unwanted punishment from the nuns if they had found out. Of course, at the age most of were, we didn’t understand 90% of the implications of many of the charming numbers.

The synopsis makes you want to watch the show again!!!!

“Stu Bailey and Jeff Spencer were the wisecracking, womanizing private detective heroes of this Warner Brothers drama. Stu and Jeff worked out of an office located at 77 Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, right next door to a snazzy restaurant where Kookie worked as a valet. The finger-snapping, slang-talking Kookie occasionally helped Stu and Jeff with their cases, and eventually became a full-fledged member of the detective agency. Rex Randolph and J.R. Hale also joined the firm, and Suzanne was their leggy secretary.”

No his daughter starred in Remington Steele in the 1980s. The Girl From UNCLE was a 1960s spinoff series that lasted 1 season and starred Stephanie Powers.
