Vanity - Problem with cell phone shutting off

Posted on 05/06/2014 2:54:52 PM PDT by Perdogg

I have a Samsung smart phone and when I start to play with more than one app, I get this message that my battery is about out of charge and the phone proceeds to shut down. This occurs even after I have fully charged the battery. Last week I was driving to a meeting, was late, and was lost, and I was on the phone with a coworker getting directions when phone shut off. I need the phone in case some thing like this happens.

I am 3 months away from an upgrade, so I am going to get rid of the phone (if I do not smash it out of frustration first) in August.

Has any one had similar problems? I want an inexpensive fix, so will buying a new battery help? I have tried multiple times to restart my phone when this happens to no avail.

thank you,

I had the same exact problem with my Samsung Galaxy, 2 years old. The battery needed replacing. Replaced the battery for $45 at Batteries Plus and now it works fine.

You’re keeping the processor too busy for the battery charge to even out.

It could just be a bad battery, or a cheaply designed battery.

Your “new” battery was likely an old new battery that had been on the shelf discharged too long.

I recently got a tracfone. I’m very happy with it. No contract, no commitment, very cheap for what I use a cell phone for. My iphone died and I saw it as an opportunity to ditch Verizon.

Perhaps it’s one of the following:

You are standing upon an planet too close to the sun - perhaps Venus - try returning to the planet Earth. The extra warm atmosphere is hard on cell phones, smart phones especially.

Your phone is too warm due to global warming, agree to pay higher taxes, give your cattle to the BLM and promise to ride a bicycle (or a unicycle - much greener to produce!) in exchange for an earlier discounted upgrade from your carrier.

Just a few thoughts I had...

In all honesty, good luck to you. Great responses on this thread.

Then I suspect you need a new battery

As several have said ... sounds like a bad battery. I’ve had that issue before with phones and was always the problem.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Sii and I agree, it’s probably the battery. You can get them really cheaply off the ‘net, but stay heads up and get an OEM replacement and make sure it has the same mAh (milli Amp hours) capacity — my original was 1650 mAh and I mistakenly bought a 1500 mAh because it was a few bucks cheaper — you could really tell the difference. So I now keep the 1500 in reserve and bought a 1650, which is in the phone now. No problems.

you want to run an virus scan or go into the developer set up and change the background apps limit to 4 or 5, it defaults to unlimited. that will help save battery life, if the battery is not shot. If you can remove the battery try spinning it on a flat surface. the more it spins the worse the battery is, as it expands and becomes rounded in the middle. might not be perfect but its a rough indicator of a battery’s condition.

Probably the battery has reached the end of its useful life. See if it does the same thing when you are using the phone while plugged into the charger. If it works fine, then it’s probably the battery.

I dumped Sprint with six months left on my contract, went over to Straight Talk for about $50 a month including tax (unlimited talk/text/3.0 GB of LTE data), AT&T Towers, and bought a Nexus for $ 350 or so. Never looked back.

I may be upgrading to the OnePlus One next month. I’m not signing on to long term contracts anymore. I’ll but a nice phone around the $300 price point and go with Straight Talk month-to-month.

Straight talk has been great with far more reliable data than Sprint.

I too have tracfone, and am very satisfied, except, I have the Samsung Centura phone and it is a piece of crap. Now Tracfone lets you bring your old phone to their party. Wish I had kept my Motorola.........

The original HTC Evo just had horrible battery life. I have the new 4G LTE model and it’s battery lasts what seems like forever.

I’ve had a Tracfone for more than 5 years. Great service. Not one single problem. Costs 7 dollars per month.

I had this problem with my Samsung. It turned out that the case I had on it was causing the phone to overheat. Once the protective cover was gone, no more problems.

I replaced the battery and this has appeared to fix the problem.
