California considers asking residents to voluntarily pay tax on every mile they drive
Activist Post ^ | 5-6-2014 | Paul Lawrance

The California legislature is considering a voluntary program to ‘tax’ every mile residents drive in order to replace state revenue being lost due to a more frequent use of high miles per gallon vehicles.

The program would reflect similar models used in Washington State and Oregon.

“We want to do as Washington and Oregon have done in a much bigger state with much longer commutes…to make sure that we find out whether it would work, whether the public would like it or not,” Californian Senator Mark DeSaulnier told CBS Los Angeles.

Desaulnier, when he says “like it or not”, is referring to a mandatory tax on miles driven that would replace the gas tax inside the state. The state of California has placed the blame on the use of hybrid and electric cars for decreasing revenue brought in by the gas tax.

People inside California do not seem to be on board with the idea.

“I bought a hybrid…one, because of my drive. I’m very opposed. I drive to Brentwood every day from Burbank, and I am already paying more than I should be,” one Californian told KCAL9.

“So if we go on vacation and I drive up to Mammoth, that’s 600 miles. We’re being taxed on vacations?” another resident complained.

It is not yet known how much the tax would cost motorists.

Meanwhile, the parasites and illegals get a free pass. I wonder who is going to fire the first shot it the upcoming CW2. It’s going to be ugly, but a lot of people are growing tired of our over the top, non law abiding govt.

I expect they will consider a dollar a pack tax on chewing gum to offset the loss of revenue due to people quitting smoking.

I frankly hope they try this. This might be the straw that breaks the Carmel’s back. This will be great because the idiot who keep respecting these clowns will have to actually write a check every year to the government and they may begin to realize that these liberals are robbing them blind.

Right now they are paying about 75 cents a gallon in taxes but they don’t know it because it is just added to the price of a gallon and these idiots all blame the evil greedy oil companies who are only making about 5 cents per gallon.

If they start paying the taxes directly instead of indirectly then they are going to be both educated and pissed.

Bring it on!!

This could be the beginning of the end of the democrats in California.

You are dead on with your assessment of Kolorado. Just like locusts, they ascended in droves throughout the late 80’s and 90’s. The idiots who coined the term “Colorful Colorado” are getting exactly what they wanted.

My folks live in SE CO (farmers) and have seen the secondary impacts of the dope trade. People living close to these dope warehouses are moving because of the stench.

I worry for Texas with Perry out there touting jobs and such to the commie states. If not careful, in time, TX will turn just as CO did...

Massachusetts state income tax has a check box that allows you to pay the previous tax rate of 5.6 instead of the current 5.1.

900 out of 3 million tax payers chose the higher rate. No politician, of the tax returns disclosed, paid the higher rate including John Kerry and Chief Spreading Bull Granny Warren.

What's the purpose of buying a fuel efficient car if it's still going to cost as much to drive?
Yea, saving the planet and all that, but saving money is the best possible incentive. Libs don't seem to believe in that.
Besides, light weight cars are supposed to less wear on the road surface. Is that not so?

It becomes obvious to me and should to every one else that the enviro movement’s purpose is to herd us all into a cities. I would guess we would be easier to control there. This is turning into a really depressing sci-fi movie.

Dems have a super majority in Sacramento. I'm surprised they would even “ask”.

I wonder what income bracket the 900 that chose that option were in.

In my state, which I think is yours, if they have a physical location here they collect the sales tax automatically. Otherwise my purchases are zero.

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet

Damn...you beat me to it! Yup,the Gay State's most progressive, most caring citizens said “no thanks” when given the *choice* to “pay their fair share”.I'll bet these very same folks take a tax deduction for the donation of used underwear and shower curtains.

“I really want to pay more taxes” Said no one ever.

A lot of rich democrats, like Warren Buffett, say that, but then they hire $500 an hour accountants and lawyers to make sure they don't.

Those are the idiots that had the IRS help them fill out their forms. Either that or they couldn't read.

Yeah, my state asks you to voluntarily pay all your sales taxes on internet purchases. They even give you the option to estimate based on your income. My entry in the little box? $0.

It's a bit different in *my* state. My state *demands* that you report any Internet,or out of state, purchase on your tax return. But for us there's another factor...in addition to the Internet about two thirds of my state's residents live within a half hour of two *huge* shopping malls in New Hampshire...which has no sales tax.On any given day the parking lots of these malls are almost entirely filled with cars from Massachusetts.

Did any one consider that the 900 might have checked the box by mistake, no math skills or other ignorance? Perhaps they could not read cursive, nor print!

On any given day the parking lots of these malls are almost entirely filled with cars from Massachusetts.

A few years ago undercover Mass. State Police were checking out NH liquor stores and malls near the border around Christmas every year and would nail Massachusetts buyers when they crossed the border. NH got wind of it and told the State Cops to stay the F out of their State.

“The Commiefornians have destroyed themselves. It needs to be quarantined to protect the remaining states.”

No kidding! They are like a cancer. After the host cell is destroyed, they move on....latching on to new cells in Colorado, Arizona, even Texas.

When liberals create their Utopias, they should want to stay, shouldn’t they?
