In this day and age, if I were the GM making my top pick, I would pick the best player who would present the smallest prospect of being troubled or troublesome.

Anybody ever read "Building a Champion" by Bill Walsh and Glenn Dickey about the days of Bill Walsh with the Niners in the 80's? The book goes into detail about his amazing preparation for the draft and draft-day execution which were as thorough and precise as the organization itself was under Walsh. It's really a kind of blueprint for success on draft day beginning with clarity of team priorities and a knowledgeable and intuitive eye for talent.

Cool and true story. I am a huge draftnik and G-Men fan from way back. Me and my buddy were coming out of a meeting talking about the draft and who walks by but Justin Pugh-Giants number one pick from last year. Swear to God. Giant of a man carrying groceries and big bag of diapers. Our jaws hit the floor.

The fact is, the Cowboys are NOT a QB away from the Super Bowl! Hell, they are an ENTIRE DAMN DEFENSE AWAY from having more than 8 victories in any of the last three seasons!!

With that said, if Jerry is stupid enough to waste a pick on Johnny, then we Cowboy fans should expect another piss-poor 7-9 or 8-8 season!

The Cowboy offense has been one of the better offenses over the last two or three years. But, their defense has been dropping year over year and landed in LAST PLACE last year! Then, they lost two of their best DL’s during this off season.

So any first round pick that does not address our anemic, hole-filled defense, tells me that Jerry is more worried about the “show” of the team, than the winning of the game!

There might be a “next Brady Quinn” someday, but there will never, ever, ever be another draft pick as bad as Ryan Leaf.

Plus, he was on the cover of S.I. already, very interesting eval of him. He’ll wind up somewhere that needs a mobile QB as mgmt rebuilds the rest of the offense over a few years. Then they’ll trade him to a team that needs a solid 2nd string. I think he’s going to be better than most, but he’s a little short, and the pace is more brisk in The Show.

Wait a minute, where’s the guy on here who ripped me last season when I told him that the Cowboys were slated “just about right” when the power ratings had them at 15/16/17?

Leaf has somekind of personality disorder.. IMO.he had it from childhood...that being said, the right coach, the right team, he would have been great.....big guy, strong arm, competitor....right now, he’s a addict sitting in jail....

I’m also a Giants fan...hope they use their first-round draft choice on another OL. Pugh was solid as a rookie at RT last year and we could use that LT from Michigan or the OG from Notre Dame. We’re still relying on Chris Snee at RG and I don’t think he has much left in the tank. And the thought of another year of Will Beatty at LT is scary.

However, there is a very good chance the OL the Giants would like to draft will be gone by the time they go on the clock. So, I can easily see them taking a DL or WR with the #12 pick.

Giants insider report sez if Johnnie Football still there at their 12th pick, he’s wearing blue. Personally, I hope Taylor Lewan is still on the board at that point so we can take him; BUT, after Lewan’s combine performance, he will likely not last past 8.

Joe Montana was a late 3rd round pick.

Not sayin’ Manziel is the second coming, but ‘experts’ can be wrong.
