Penn State University located in State College, Pennsylvania is notorious for their seemingly bottomless pitcher of school spirit.
After all, students at the University are even tailgating their final exams. Complete with hot dogs and encouraging signs.
This photo from Onward State's Facebook page has been making the rounds this week:
Stephen Pianovich, pictured above, is graduating this May and masterminded the plan to tailgate a final.
It was on his senior year bucket list.
In an email to Business Insider, he said:
We got some confused looks from people walking and driving by, but nobody from the university or police told us we needed to stop. I guess I should have mentioned that this was a sober event. I think people see the word tailgate and think of boozing, but we didnt want to give anyone a reason to kick us off campus, so we made sure there was no alcohol there.
The crowd varied from about 20-30 people, so it wasnt too much of a ruckus, but enough to let people know we were tailgating a final. We cheered loudly again when [our friends] Ryan and Shane exited the exam and took a group picture.
I graduate this weekend and all semester my friends and I have been trying to do unique and fun things, and this was just another example of that. Is it going to become a Penn State tradition down the road? I certainly wouldnt mind seeing that, but who knows? I do know, however, that we made some memories and Im overjoyed we went through with it.

I hope they keep the kids away.
Full disclosure: I got high for my one of my finals at [edited]. My last final was late on the calendar, and my friends had already started celebrating the end of them. Lost an A to a B+. Never did it again.
I remember students in the balconies of larger [general requirement] classes smoking weed DURING the finals! Early 80’s.
“Business Insider? I barely knew her!”
About as lame as any of the nitwit’s signs.
Well, something about number 2 and number 1 so I'm not holding out much hope for anyone of any age there.
Plus, they read the "business insider" blog, or "bi-blog" as I call it, which is written at about pre-school level, so there's that.
I don’t think “Penn State” and “Tailgating” should be used in the same sentence for awhile.
It might be best.
Ignore the troll. No one likes it. Worst poster on FR, bar none.
Summer of 82, I had 3 finals in one day ( all engr courses). I could have changed one final to another day, but decided to get everything over with in one day and go home. Made it through the first two, but the last one ( dynamics) my brain stopped working, figured I got a 15% on it and flunked the course (passed with a c). Spent the rest of the night across the street at the rat cellar, and passed out on the northern part of the campus trying to walk home to pine wood north.
The worst ones talk smack about folks behind their backs like scumsucking cowards.
Don't be afraid, spunky. You have a voice.
A little off topic FlJoePa, don’t know if you saw this article in the CDT, here is a little bit:
“The Nittany Lions now own 11 four-star recruits, according to 24-7, while the other 13 schools in the Big Ten Conference have a combined total of 13. Penn States Class of 2015 is currently ranked No. 1 in the conference, No. 2 overall behind Alabama, according to 24-7.” CDT
The Lions are going to be tough to beat.
Franklin is a recruiting machine. He hasn’t left his office (literally) since he took the job. Has a new house in town, doesn’t know the address. Sleeps on an inflatable mattress in his office.
More chest pains for Urban, I guess.
Boo hoo, QED. Worst poster evah. ROFLPIMP.
This is just too cute. I love the sign that says, “Go, Shane! Beat Bio”.
Good natured, clean fun is not celebrated enough in our culture.
