Egypt's minister of antiquities says Japanese archeologists have unearthed the tomb of an ancient beer brewer in the city of Luxor that is more than 3,000 years old.

Mohammed Ibrahim says Friday the tomb dates back to the Ramesside period and belongs to the chief "maker of beer for gods of the dead" who was also the head of a warehouse. He added that the walls of the tomb's chambers contain "fabulous designs and colors, reflecting details of daily life ... along with their religious rituals."

The head of the Japanese team, Jiro Kondo, says the tomb was discovered during work near another tomb belonging to a statesmen under Amenhotep III, grandfather of the famed boy-pharaoh Tutankhamun.

He was naturally embalmed by his beer.

Unfortunately I have found recently that beer causes gout.

NOBODY wants gout and if you don't know what it is, don't get it. It's a lousy way to find out.

Gout is a build up of acids in the muscles. I’ve known people who got it through a high protein diet. I’ve never known anyone that got gout by drinking beer.

Beer is quite high in purines, the precursors to Uric Acid.

And the alcohol diminishes your ability to excrete Uric Acid.

Double Whammy.

Anyone who has gout can tell you that beer is Taboo #1.

I think it’s similar to several foods that “cause kidney/bladder stones.”

Some people are more prone to it but most have nothing to worry about.

Good, now they are concentrating on really important people. I wonder, was there a good stout?

Agreed -- and a most painful way. (First person testimony...)

Thanks for the ping. Are you familiar with the line of brews made from what the brewing company Dogfish Head calls “ancient grains”?

From your link" "Gout was historically known as "the disease of kings" or "rich man's disease.""

I feel cheated: I have gout, but, I missed out on all the riches and "high living" that are supposed to be the cause... '-)

I think there’s a topic or two about it, under the “zymurgy” keyword. :’)

Dumb question from me. I probably learned about the ancient grains ales from one of your posts.

I have tried 2 of them, BTW. They were interesting, but I have no desire to try them again.
