They are guilty of stealing several heads of sheep from a local farm

A Saudi court ordered the severing of the right hands of two thieves accused of stealing sheep in line with Sharia, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The court in the southern town of Bisha issued the sentence against the two defendants after they were found guilty of stealing several heads of sheep from a local farm.

The chief judge told the defendants they can appeal the sentence, which was handed down by a three-judge panel.

Sabq Arabic language daily said the sentenced involved the amputation of the rights hands of the two defendants from the wrist.

In Saudi Arabia, they take a thief and cut off his hands. Here, we send him to Congress. Which is crazier?

I'm sure the Democrats will be howling in protest about this injustice.

It’s so odd though, because if someone commits rape it’s the victim that gets punished. Oh, same thing I guess, here we elect them to higher office.

If the same was true here there would not be a politician who was not a quadriplegic...of course they would have an exemption.

I don’t endorse Sharia law but it is a good crime deterrent to alleviate thefts, plus cuts down on back round checks. I mean, yo, if a job applicant is missing a hand, I guess he’s a thief.

We need to send Harry Reid to the Saudi court for thievery of the ranchers in Nevada.

This sounds very suspicious to me. Unless they have changed their laws in the last nine months, the cutting off the hand punishment is bogus.

When I was a kid...newly enlisted in the AF...I shared a flight with a guy that was living and working in Saudi Arabia. He showed me his watch...big gold jobbie, and said he could put it on the hood of his car and leave it there all day. He said you’d occassionally see a man with one hand, but he had yet to see a man with no hands. For what it’s worth....

At one time these people were nomads. Every item they owned was needed to survive the harsh desert climate where they lived. Stealing from someone, even something simple like a blanket, quite literally condemned that person to death as he was no longer able to survive.

As such, they took stealing very seriously.

Which is why, back in the day, horse theft was a capital offense in Texas.

Nothing new, knew a welder that stole something there 40 years ago and they cut off his right hand, out the bloody stump in a plastic bag and put him on an airplane to LONDON.

The title of the article indicated the amputation is to be done in Sausia. Mthe video link indicates Mogadishu.

Mogadishu is not in Saudia. I seriously doubt that this would be done in Saudia. Unless their laws have changed in the last 9 months. It has been illegal for quite a number of years to take off hands in the kingdom.

So my question for you, are you talking of Saudia, and if you are, have tha laws changed in tha last 9 months?

I new an American 18 year kid, who, about 3 years or so ago who was convicted of stealing gold from a neighbor and selling it in the Gold Souk. They kicked him out of the kingdom.

He left the kingdom with all body parts he had entered it with.

Unless they have changed the laws recently, removing hands (which I was done surgically, not by sword as has been implied). Has been illegal in Saudia for at least 10 years.

I know that the Muttawa have been trying to get this changed, but I haven’t yet heard that they had been successful.

Of course, if this sentence was indeed handed down as written, it wouldn’t be the first time that a Sharia court abused their status in the kingdom.

Saudis have the right, however, to appeal directly to the king, so odds are that this will be overturned and the imams making such ha decision chastised for embarrassing the king.

Not a good thing to embarrass the king in Saudia

Not to worry. In the KSA, the direst punishments are usually reserved for lower end "guest workers."

Good idea to avoid shopping in Riyadh on punishment day, as they (used to) round up foreigners in the souk to witness the punishments in "Chop-Chop" Square.
