Sorry about the bad link. But this guy is worth listening to. My Cholesterol is down to 119 and my dr says it's too low. Time to get a new Doctor, one who actually teaches like a dr should.

Now I've heard everything.

I now have the permission to eat whatever the heck I want.

Eat potatoes and save the world. I don't think so.

this diet works for the same reason ANY diet works if you limit yourself to one thing.

you simply get tired of eating that one that and start eating less.

heck you could invent a cookie diet where all you ate was cookies and it would work.

If I ate my calorie allotment in cookies I’d balloon! I can’t eat sugar and simple carbs. I even have to limit my complex carbs. Calorie counting is worthless for me. I can eat all I want and still maintain my weight by eliminating carbs.

You’re right. I went on a beer and peanuts diet once and I lost 20 lb. In 2 months

Don’t pay attention to the trolls. The last thing big pharma wants is people getting healthy.

Thanks for the thread!

P.S. I think one of the reasons this diet might work so well is that it is largely vegetarian. Not that vegetarianism is the best diet per se, but that proteins and carbs are digested differently. If you separate them, you digest much faster and more efficiently, and your health imporoves. Obviously one way to separate them is by getting rid of meat entirely, like McDougall does here. But another way is to simply separate carb meals from protein meals (carb meaning heavy carb). And you just eat lighter vegetables and greens with both. For more info on this, read “Eating Alive” by Dr. Jonn Matsen.

I don’t have the time to watch an hour long video, but some quick research and my own common sense informed me this guy is a quack.

He’s a vegan who is pushing his fanatic lifestyle. He claims that dairy products are responsible for disease, and that you shouldn’t eat olive oil. He says Steve Jobs actually lived with pancreatic cancer for 30 years because he was a vegan.

No animal protein? No, thanks. Skinny with no muscle tone because you avoid meat is not healthy.

McDougall has a penchant for getting personal and nasty when people don’t agree with his vegan gospel. He uses, “Look, I’m a doctor”, to try and shut down disagreement. Well, the good doctor’s advice flies in the face of just about everything we know about nutrition.

I’m glad you are healthy; congratulations. I hope that doesn’t change for you. But I wonder how many insulin-resistant people who believe this guy are going to be thrown into full-blown diabetes by ingesting nothing but carbs.

Just for the record, I’m not overweight, my BP is slightly below normal, and I don’t avoid carbs, but I limit them. I LOVE meat. Animal protein is good for you.

It’s just the sales cycle. Everyone’s already bought the protein diet books and products. It’all be starch for awhile until that market is saturated, then veggies, then back to protein.

My wife has reversed her type 2 diabetes and has been on this diet for over 2 years. Check out Colin Campbell MD and Neal Barnard MD. Campbell has been part of studies that confirmed the dangers of milk and cheese.

I expected some flack for posting this but I know this works because my symptoms of irritable bowels have disappeared. I still like all those things that were making me sick in a dozen ways. But I'd rather eat to live than live to eat and die in pain like my day did at around my age.
