The Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, N.J., was evacuated after unidentified noises feared to be gunshots were heard. A burning car outside Macy’s appeared to be the source of the explosive sounds, but police could not confirm that. Sources say SWAT teams were dispatched to the mall.
Workers and shoppers at a New Jersey mall scrambled for cover Saturday night as unidentified noises they feared were gunshots erupted.
A car on fire outside Macy’s at Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, N.J., appeared to be the source of the explosive sounds, but police could not confirm that.
The mall was being evacuated around 9 p.m.
“It is pandemonium here,” shopper Gregory Domino tweeted from the scene. “At Garden State Plaza and just evacuated Macy’s 10 minutes ago due to reported gunshots (on) the floor above us.”

Now we have a car flipping out.
My bet: indeed it is car noises. Ever hear of backfiring? That or related to explosions leading to the fire.

Tires popping. I have fought numerous car fires and it still gets my attention in spite of knowing what is about to happen.

Garden state parkway 1993, watched a car fire get going real good.
The gas shocks that held the hood open went off, hood slammed shut, and the firemen had to pry it back open.
Then they got rewarded with bright white sparks from something other than battery in the engine compartment.
Same here. I always felt that the older tires made more of a popping sound. I was cutting a battery cable one time when the gas tank let loose taking the rear tires with it. Thought we had the interior knocked down but that little flame is a sneaky bastard.
How paranoid are the idiots in NJ that they hear a tire or something explode due to a car fire and think active shooter.

Welcome to my world! Paramus is an affluent suburban mix of old and new-money democrats and that are typical NJ liberal bed-wetters. Anyone that’s been around an auto fire knows that when those tires go, it’s no different than standing next to the muzzle of a 45-70. STUPID. LIBERALS.
