According to Enstars on Saturday, Peter Jackson's third film "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies", has fans petitioning for the plot to take a different route than that of the J.R.R. Tolkien book. The first major change that was announced with the movie title which was originally "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" and now fans are demanding to change the outcome of Thorin Oakenshield's destiny.
Jackson's change to the title was motivated by the appropriateness of the film as he kept up with it during its course. The director thought since Bilbo was already "there" at the destination of The Lonely Mountain in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug", it just didn't seem to be the right fit considering the circumstances of Bilbo. Now "The Battle of the Five Armies" title seems to be an accurate representation of the events about to transpire in the third film.

He changed the name because Bilbo doesn’t go home again. He moves to Minnesota.
It's Like Trying to Change what happened to Boromir.
If they want to rewrite the book they are no “fans”.
It’s due to women ape over the lead actor. They completely miss the deeper meaning of Thorin’s descent into greed, and his redemption although it cost him his life.
IOW, they aren’t looking at Thorin Oakinshield, warrior and fallen king, they are looking at #ThorinHot.
I’d tell the “fans” to take their petition and shove it.
The irony is he gets only in death what he desired in life
I wish someone had said that to Peter Jackson before he decided to rewrite it.
Bombadil was one of the most intriguing characters. He and Goldberry inhabited something other than middle-earth and the three ages. Bombadil was from the beginning, but the beginning of Arda? Was he one of the Valar? As far as Peter Jackson, he added characters which made no sense other than commercially, but I don't think he'd change the ending. Whatever would be do with Dain? Send him back to the Iron Mountains?
I refuse to watch another Peter Jackson film after he destroyed the King Kong francise.
No not the filmography, effects or the brilliance of andy serkis. That aspect was wonderful. No it was the PC, anti man, pro pedophiles homo, anti capitalist, whites are evil racism and a weak faggy plot line with metrosexual heroes that destroyed it.
He is on my ship list along with James Cameron
which movie are you talking about?
I kept wondering "Where in the heck is Tom Bombadil, too?"
Can I petiton to change that too? Or Thorin Letting Greed get the best of him?
I mean it's not like Tolkien Spelled that out or antyhing.
The King beneath the mountains, The King of carven stone, The lord of silver fountains Shall come into his own!
His crown shall be upholden, His harp shall be restrung, His halls shall echo golden To songs of yore re-sung.
The woods shall wave on mountains And grass beneath the sun; His wealth shall flow in fountains And the rivers golden run.
The streams shall run in gladness, The lakes shall shine and burn, All sorrow fail and sadness At the Mountain-king's return!
That ruins the whole ending, with its connections to the death of Beowulf and how everything is going to go downhill from there, heroic-myth-wise.
I like the movie Thorin as well as any healthy middle-aged lady, but dang it, he’s supposed to be a white-bearded bicentenarian.
Should that have been changed?
“I'm not used ta having a firearm stuck in my face. I know the Lord tests you in all kinda ways but hoo, partner, that's a heart stopper!”
Certainly not! Everyone knows Sean Bean dies in character just about every time.
As a woman and a fan, I would hate to see any more departures from the book. I just finished watching “The Desolation of Smaug” and I think Jackson is ruining this story. Over two hours, full of CGI special effects fight scenes that are not in the book. Where did the Tauriel and Kili thing come from? Not the book.
Now THAT should have been changed!
The mob as literary genius?
I had never read The Hobbit; but, tried to tackle it recently. I accepted the fate of Thorin Oakenshield, it seemed inevitable considering the influence he was under. I was bummed, however, that he took Kili and Fili with him. That doesn't mean I liked losing Thorin, I just accepted the writer's story. I had forgotten Boromir from LOTRs; but, that is a good analogy.
Perhaps it is the times we live in, and the entertainment that we see these days, that makes us want to change things so that the outcome is not so dire. Boromir was affected by The One Ring of Power; but, his death redeemed him in a way and he remained a Hero. He could not defeat death; but, he defeated the "Darkness".
Hubby and I are enjoying this new look at Fargo Much darker than the movie and Billy Bob Thornton is great as the "devil"(?) Is he the devil?
This is where "the suits" become involved. Someone is looking at the demographic numbers and thinks adding a female character and love interest for the dwarf (Kili), that had women all over the internet drooling, would help sell more tickets.
Maybe because I understood that was what was happening with the addition, and, I am not a purist on this stuff, Tauriel didn't bother me so much.
So Jackson makes three films from a half inch thick paperback book - anyone remember “Bored of the Rings” by the Harvard Lampoon guys way back when? The story of the ring given by Dildo Bugger to his nephew, Frito. Some of it was pretty clever, some not so much.
I don’t really follow this stuff, but I did enjoy watching the LOTR series on DVD. Have not really paid attention to who the actors are, and, generally, I have almost no knowledge of current actors and actresses. So I had to look up a picture of the actor of which you speak.
This woman is not thinking “hottie” when I look at that metrosexual looking fellow.
well Malvo is his name....
and Malvo was the guy who shot up people in and around the DC beltway area....
and once you figure out that the reason we can see different shades of green better than other colors is to watch out for predators....well.
so Malvo is a good name for the devil
BTW... I love DARK. (Empire strikes back, Unforgiven, 2 of my all time favorites....along with Breaking Bad for TV darkness) I loved the movie. comparing a 2 hour movie with a 12 hour mini series is apples and oranges.
thanks Henry Beard and Doug Kenny....
“BTW... I love DARK. (Empire strikes back, Unforgiven, 2 of my all time favorites....along with Breaking Bad for TV darkness.”
Dark is wonderful, but it takes skill and talent to write it without become schlock or parody.
Breaking Bad was an incredible feat of great writing and acting.
Peter Jackson’ The Hobbit.
The unexpected cure for insomnia
He’s getting beefy-faced and looks like his teeth hurt. Maybe it’s the role. Must be hard getting killed all the time.
He was so dreamy as Captain Sharpe, in the BBC series, back when I was much younger.
LOL, that was going to be my next point Tax-Chick. Sean Bean didn't die in Captain Sharpe!
Thoughtless of the author to want to continue making money off the character by letting him live on ... and on ... and on ...
LOL. What do they want, a Thorin spinoff?
A beautiful story. And then, there's the true translation of what was inscribed on the One Ring:
This Ring, no other, is made by the elves,
Who'd pawn their own mother to grab it themselves.
Ruler of creeper, mortal and scallop,
This is a sleeper that packs quite a wallop.
The Power almighty rests in this Lone Ring.
The Power, alrighty, for doing your Own Thing.
If broken or busted, it cannot be remade.
If found, send to Sorhed (the postage is prepaid).
We have it, too.
Why was Spam wearing that straw boater, anyway?
Richard Sharpe, so awesome, he survived being played by SEAN BEAN!
> fans are demanding to change the outcome of Thorin Oakenshield’s destiny.
Yeah, and the swan should live in “Swan Lake”, and Romeo and Juliet should have a happy ending.
How about all the other fans who have pleaded with him not to include the major departures from LOTR and The Hobtbit which he had ignored?
Translation: Jackson wants to change the story, and is selectively appealing to the fans who will justify his changes.
So Jackson is going to have Thorin live because women think he’s hot?
These women are probably not ones I’d take home to meet the folks, anyhow.
Fluke Starbucker: Jeepers! What is it, Augie Ben Doggie? Did you feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced?
Auggie Ben Doggie: No, just a little headache.
