A 68-year-old grandfather who was severely beaten on an East Village street Friday night died from his injuries the following day and police are looking for the suspect.
Ruan Wen Hui had just dropped off his granddaughter and was walking on East Sixth Street between avenues C and D when a suspect came up from behind, yelled at him and started attacking, officials said.
Surveillance video from the scene shows the suspect tossing the man against a wall, then stomping and punching him. After the attack, the assailant is seen walking away.
Hui was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. He died Saturday, police say.
Hui, a Chinese immigrant, worked in a garment factory for the last 15 years, his daughter said. She described him as a man who always tried to help others and said she didn't know why anyone would want to attack him.
"Everybody loves him," she said. "Nobody can accept that he is gone."
A woman who lives on the block saw Hui lying in the street after he was assaulted.
"He was laying there, and he was bleeding, and the cops were here, and it was obvious that he was hurt pretty badly," the witness said.

I’ve been to “Chinatown” once and,IIRC,it’s in the Lower East Side.Apart from Asians I’m not familiar with the racial/ethnic breakdown of that area.

I stated that plenty of old men die due the hands and feet of "unarmed" perps. Here's a prime example. It doesn't take too many slams, punches and stomps to kill any person for that matter, but the elderly are especially vulnerable.

One hit to the head is all it can take for someone to die and a person need not be elderly. Anybody can get killed with one punch to the head and it happens all the time. I remember a few years ago in NYC this young guy made the mistake of asking two ferals what time it was and one of them punched him in the head because thats what taxpayer supported products of welfare breeding cows do, and he fell and was dead by the time the cops got there. We pay for these ferals 3 ways: Support them as they are raised, become victims of their crimes, and then while they are in jail and every step is forced upon public.

Investigators believe Pugh confronted Hui outside 745 East 6th St. about 8:45 p.m., and ordered the older man to "Gimme something," witness told police.
This should be a quick conviction. Too bad the conviction won't be followed by an execution.
