A judge on Monday ordered an investigation into the whereabouts of Casey Kasem after an attorney for the ailing radio personalitys wife said the former Top 40 host had been removed from the country.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy ordered a court investigator and adult protective services to find out where Kasem is being treated and report back to the court. Kasem, 82, suffers from advanced Parkinsons disease, can no longer speak and has been in various medical facilities chosen by his wife, Jean Kasem.
Casey Kasems children have complained that they have been unable to see their father in accordance with an agreement with their stepmother. Daughter Kerri Kasem had sought a temporary conservatorship and was appointed her fathers temporary caretaker on Monday. Her attorney, Troy Martin, said the family believes the entertainer has been taken to an Indian reservation in Washington state.

Sounds like family problems between the kids and the current wife. To bad. A local radio station still plays reruns of American top 40 on Sunday mornings. Boy that takes me back.
May God bless and protect Mr.Kasem.
Kinda odd that the wife hides him. This could be ugly.
Top 40 countries he can be in.
Libs and money...always a volatile combination. Jean Kasem clearly wants the estate for herself, and is determined to keep the children away. Meanwhile, the kids have issues over Kasey leaving his family for a younger woman 30+ years ago.
By some estimates, Casey is worth somewhere around $80 million, though he did put his mansion up for sale last year (or more correctly, his wife did). More than enough money to fight over, and it looks like Jean Kasem is trying to liquidate much of the estate before he expires.
The real winners in this one will be the lawyers. There will be one hell of a probate battle after Casey expires.
Was he on that plane?
Lived in Taiwan in my young years, had a China girl, and we spent countless hours listening to Kasey Kasem’s top hits on Armed Forces Radio.
It would be interesting to know what his will says. If the wife is liquidating assets is there a reason to do so other than to hide them?
Switzerland. They allow assisted suicide there.
China Girl, Back in the USSR or Kashmir could be potential places.
Your photo is bigger than mine....
In reading the comments, apparently the kids have a trust and the will already leaves everything to the stepmother and their child. He’s supposedly being hidden on an Indian reservation. So sad. End-stage Parkinson’s, his kids should be allowed to see him. The daughter has now been granted conservatorship. Presumably if the stepmother was in the right, she could go to court herself if she has a legitimate reason to bar the children from seeing their father.
“Kinda odd that the wife hides him. This could be ugly.”
I don’t think so. Advanced Parkinson’s is no picnic. My spouse has it... Caregivers tend to shield people they care for. It’s so easy for them to be taken advantage of. Yes, even by their kids.
"Indian Reservation" by Paul Revere and the Raiders reached #1 on July 24, 1971. Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.
I once heard that Casey was a Sikh. If true, is this some ritualistic thing? Only the top ten answers will be considered.
LOL But you got yours in first!
Wow. He’s still alive?
Kasem was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Lebanese Druze parents who emigrated from the British Mandate of Palestine to Lebanon. After arriving in the United States, they settled in Michigan, where they worked as grocers. Kasem is a graduate of Northwestern High School in Detroit and Wayne State University.
Kasem, whose professional radio career started in the mid-1950s in Flint, Michigan, was drafted into the US Army in 1952 and sent to Korea, where he was a DJ/announcer on the Armed Forces Radio Korea Network. He developed his rock-trivia persona from his work as a disc jockey in the early 1960s at KYA in San Francisco, California, and KEWB in Oakland, California. He also worked for several other stations across the country, including WJW (now WKNR) in Cleveland, Ohio; WBNY (now WWWS) in Buffalo, New York; and KRLA 1110 in Los Angeles, California (196369), before launching the national show American Top 40 on July 4, 1970.
“Presumably if the stepmother was in the right, she could go to court herself if she has a legitimate reason to bar the children from seeing their father.”
If the wife is the guardian, then she doesn’t need a legitimate reason. I am the caregiver for my wife who is an advanced Parkinson’s patient. If the daughter has conservator ship, the kids are covered to the extent of what’s in the will. The wife can’t spend “his” money.
Sometimes fast is good and sometimes....well, you know the rest.
“I once heard that Casey was a Sikh.”
I think he’s Lebanese, and a lefty. That said, I spent many hours listening to AT40 back in the Day.
“Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.”
Or in this case keep a GPS tracker on.
What does this mean: “If the daughter has conservator ship, the kids are covered to the extent of whats in the will.”? Supposedly the kids are not in the will. They were given trusts. It may be a medical conservatorship. Why is she hiding him? I just think it is sad.
. . . and now back to the Countdown.
One of the highlights of the early parts of my life was when my long distance dedication was read by Casey on the air April 6, 1983.
Or by their much younger wives
the entertainer has been taken to an Indian reservation in Washington state.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Ah, the old ‘hide ‘em on the Reservation trick’.
Are they speaking American Indian (Native American) or Punjab type Indian?
How cruel of Kasem to treat his children and wife(s) so meanly.
I am carrying on an old family tradition that GUARANTEES their will be ZERO fighting over my ‘estate’.
I am carrying the tradition on because “I love them”.....
So does Washington State.
Well if so he was a bad one
“What does this mean: If the daughter has conservator ship, the kids are covered to the extent of whats in the will.? Supposedly the kids are not in the will. They were given trusts. It may be a medical conservatorship.
No, the guardian is responsible for medical stuff and day to day decisions. Conservator-ship involves the financial part.
The issue may be that Parkinson’s usually have a firm grasp on reality and are mentally competent. She may not want the kids to pressure him into changing his will. Kids can be your worst enemy sometimes... That’s her prerogative if she’s his guardian and has POA for him.
“One of the highlights of the early parts of my life was when my long distance dedication was read by Casey on the air April 6, 1983.
And one of my “Highlights” was when Ghoulardi blew up a model car that I’d sent him!
Kids can also be a comfort to a dying parent. Not all kids from a prior marriage are greedy or manipulative! Maybe they just want to see their dad before he dies. Sometimes second spouses just would like to pretend the previous marriage and the children issued from it didn’t exist, for their OWN selfish reasons. Second marriages come with baggage.
Kasey is worth an estimated $80 million dollars. I sense that’s behind all this.
Sad to watch when family fights over money.
See, when you come out of those up-tempo goddamn numbers, man, its impossible to make those transitions, and then you gotta go into somebody dying. You know, they do this to me all the time. I dont know what the hell they do it for, but God damn it if we cant come out of a slow record. I dont understand it. Is Don on the phone? Okay. I want a goddamn concerted effort to come out of a record that isnt a f*cking up-tempo record every time I do a goddamn death dedication! Now make itand I also wanna know what happened to the pictures I was supposed to see this week! This is the godlast goddamn time. I want somebody to use his f*cking brain to not come out of a goddamn record that isthats up-tempo and I gotta talk about a f*cking dog dying!
Me, too. He was the Wolfman Jack of my g-g-generation.
Don’t know the first thing about them so I couldn’t judge.
I’m so jealous!!
Yeah, ask Cliff Price.
Sounds like a job for Scooby Doo and Mystery Incorporated!
Maybe we should do a long distance dedication.
He's a lefty, involved in such causes as the 1986 "Great Peace March for Global Nuclear Disarmament"--a cross-country protest march that started in Los Angeles and got all the way to Sidewinder Rd., just beyond Victorville, Calif.
“Sometimes second spouses just would like to pretend the previous marriage and the children issued from it didnt exist, for their OWN selfish reasons.”
I know nothing about that... I’ve never had a second marriage.
