Brazil cops have given a chilling warning to England fans ahead of the World Cup, telling them "don't scream if you're robbed."

The tips will be passed on to tourists in a pamphlet for those going to support their national sides in the major tournament in June.

Security bosses believe if fans "do not react, scream or argue," then they will not provoke robbers into further violence.

Police warned tourists about an increasing crime on the streets of Brazil known as "latrocinios", meaning a robbery that ends in murder.

For those who think Rio's hotels seem a tad expensive at the World Cup, there are always alternatives - perhaps a room in a "love hotel" or in a "pacified" slum.

Since the start of the year, seven police units in so-called "pacified" Rio slums have been attacked in violence blamed on drug trafficking gangs. Six police officers have died.

Someone has a gun in your face, you want to stay calm. You want them to stay calm. You want everyone to stay calm.

What’s so “chilling” about that advice?

Do the police in Dallas (for example) tell you to start screaming when a robber has a gun on you?

How does that make getting robbed or murdered, something they deserve?

I don’t recall police advising sports fans on how not to get murdered.

Europeans look down on the US because of our "violent gun culture".

Brazil's homicide rate is four times the US rate.

But all guns are required to be registered in Brazil ($40 US every three years, please) and legal carry outside the home is "virtually impossible," according to Wikipedia.

It ought to be a crime-free paradise compared to the US -- that is, if gun control actually worked.

“Socialist paradise” in my dictionary = 3d World Sh!thole, aka the next great destination for the CBS TV show, The Amazing Race, which seems to be a tour of these lowlights for the most part.

A few years back,on my last full day in Rio,we took a day tour of the region.During this tour we were taken to a national park very close to Rio called Tijuca National Park.Very beautiful...very tropical...very hilly. As we were climbing one the hills the guide called our attention to a large collection of buildings on an adjacent hillside. She said that it was one of Rio's many "favelas" (slums) and that it was such a violent and dangerous place that the Brazilian army dares not enter it during the daytime.
