Word For The Day, Wednesday, May 14, 2014-- hypergelast
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
hear it pronounced
One who laughs excessively.
Origin: From Greek hyper- (over) + gelastes (laughter), from gelan (to laugh).
ageleast [AJ-uh-last] One who never laughs.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Henry Jenkins; What Made Pistachio Nuts?; Columbia University Press; 1992.
Let’s see some homework. Note that the “g” in today’s word is soft, pronounced like a “j” as in John Kerry’s pronunciation of Jenjis Khan.
I fear the news that Lebron James is organizing an NBA boycott is slowly turning me into a hypergelast!
“She sure do got a pretty mouth”
hypergelast — the final person in a group to use a particular high colonic.
The night of the living thumbs!
Sorry—messed up the Ping!
wondered where you were!
a spurt of excess glucose in the plasma.
I’ll be in and out the rest of the day. I will grade all homework, however.
Looks like somebody pulled up both of the hyperglastic strings on her thong ....
agelast — not ageleast (the antonymn)
Good morning - although not newsworthy, I used to have stepsisters who were hypergelasts. They were dumb as posts to begin with but would laugh at anything - in the middle of a sentence - at inappropriate things. We were always stunned at the giggling fools.
Used to? Did you have to kill them? ;-)
I threatened many times and my family said “too messy”.... but when their father died we were no longer related to them
You could say that Santa Claus is both hypergelastic AND hypergelatinous, the latter with regard to his expansive midsection
and with that horrific image, even the hypergelasts in class were silenced.
He says many good things, i have not given up on him. I think that it’s good when they explain what the mind-set was at the time, Father Etsio will do that too, in his homilies. He will explain that at the time, this group was not talked to by that group, or was looked down upon for such and such a reason. These kinds of things we would not necessarily know. Which is why i had no problem with the alien analogy as a way to explain the outlandishness of preaching to the Gentiles, back in those days. I really do no think he spoke with the intent of being taken literally in that regard.
Chaput was working to make that happen. xsfiance’s parents were talking about how the mayor of Philly went to Rome and met with the Pope, and he was going to ask him to come too. They said it was ridic bc they literally broke in with live programming on local philly TV, of the audience, as if the Pope was going to give his answer on the spot.
Turning into a hypergelast
Has become a common sight
For Obama’s many minions
When questioned day or night
Any one of many inquiries
That are thrown their way-
A zoned-out look is first,
Then they start to bray
A very nervous laugh to defer
Any attention from the fact
They have no honest answers
But it is all just an act...
The left loves this pope, not bc they love him and his faith, but bc they can mock him. They take so many things he says and does and use it to strike at the church. I grow weary of it, and think that the pope could do more to use caution in what he says and does. That being said, I do believe that God can use this to His advantage, I just do not see it as yet.
Gov Corbett was going to hit the pope up for a visit as well, but his audience got nixed at the last minute.
xsboy is en route home finally. he stayed behind to hang with his boys before going their separate ways. he will almost immediately leave again to go down to his home-boys graduation from Va Tech this weekend.
A perfect demonstration of the hysterical aspect of hypergelastic personalities.
Thanks for the correction. Appreciate it.
A++ For your stepsisters, Cinderella.
A++ for the jolly and round Mr. Claus.
You hit the nail on the head.
How cool did it get at your place last night? It was 48 at 6am here-Husky girl was so happy she wouldn’t stop jumping around until we went all the way down to the river...
It is supposed to get down to the low 40’s tonight...
How are the upcoming nuptials progressing? I hope it is all going well...
And thanks for your weekly posting. I have learned a lot from it.
Everything is on schedule. The bridesmaid dresses have come in and were sent to out of towners. The IRELAND one was finally picked up last week , after much concern about its whereabouts. Xshub insured it and asked for tracking which must have prompted a duty to be paid on it which required Mary Liz to go to the PO to get it. So we were sweating that. Two other bridesmaids exchanged theirs between them a 4 was tight on one and a 6 a bit loose on the other so the trade worked well. And for some reason I had a brain fart and ordered a size 8 for xsbaby thinking that was the size she had tried on at the bridal salon, when I looked at the cellphone pic I had taken I saw she’d tried a 12! But I discovered this only after she tried it on and it zipped but she can’t breathe well in it at this point. She’s been dieting since the start of lent and obv lost significant weight. If she loses just a bit more in the next 4 mo she should be able to breathe comfortably!
