TUCSON, Ariz. – An autopsy has determined that a University of Arizona student from California was drunk when he fell to his death April 4 while climbing a rooftop tower.

The Arizona Daily Star (http://ow.ly/wQ0s6 ) reports that 19-year-old Michael Evan Anderson of Mission Viejo had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the .08 legal limit for drivers. His death was ruled accidental.

Never heard of a university falling to its death before.

What a shame.

...had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the .08 legal limit for drivers.

I wonder what the legal limit for climbers is. Whatever it is; I'm guessing he was over that one too.

Was it the buildings themselves or just the entirety of the student body and administration? Either way, it will be missed. Now, we just have ASU and NAU. (:

Should’ve been doing his homework instead of boozing it up.

Very strange. Most universities get loaded during Spring Break and fall off a balcony somewhere in Mexico.

Anderson had climbed about halfway up a 20-foot tall ventilation tower when he fell onto the rooftop.

so how far was the fall? is that the right way to ask that question? anyway--did he fall 10 feet? does not seem that high... or is the tower 20 feet from the top of the roof? still, if he landed on the top roof, that is still 10 feet... i guess he could die falling one story, but i am curious...

The fact that his blood alcohol content was “more than twice the legal limit for driving” has absolutely nothing to do with anything. The “legal limit for driving” is arbitrarily low, so that anyone can be determined as drunk if they have any detectable amount of alcohol. This way, they can be charged thousands of dollars in fines and attorneys’ fees to help keep the municipal bureaucracies running. I am certainly not saying that there shouldn’t be some restrictions on alcohol consumption while or prior to driving, I just think that the .08% measure is very close to almost negligible.

Now this university that fell off of a tower was not operating a motor vehicle. He was climbing a tower, which is stupid on its own. He probably would have died anyway, because of the principles of Darwinism, more than having had a couple of beers. He was probably clumsy. I’m sorry he died, especially because they think they can blame it on alcohol.

The parents will probably sue the person(s) that provided the booze to a 19-year-old.

When I was in school, my university climbed up the inside of an old smokestack. It had rock-climbing equipment and planned on rappelling down the outside. When it was almost to the top, the old generator started up and fumigated the university, which then fell to its death.

I see universities haven't gotten any smarter over the years.

My first year in college, I had a buddy on my dorm floor (9’th floor) nicknamed “Jack Daniels” who used to climb out his window and walk the 5-inch ledge over to neighboring windows in order to horse around with people. Didn’t matter if there was snow on the ledge... he did it all the time (well, mainly when drunk).
