Watch a Hero Cat Charge Down a Dog Brutally Attacking a Child
theblaze.com ^ | may 14, 2014 | liz klimas

A little boy was out enjoying his bicycle in his family’s driveway on Tuesday when out of no where he was attacked by a loose dog.

Luckily, a hero cat was on hand to save the day — yes, a cat.

The incident occurred just before 5 p.m., in Bakersfield, California, according to KERO-TV.

Different angles from the home’s surveillance camera show the boy and then the dog prowling around the corner. When the canine spotted the boy on the other side of an SUV, he trotted over and then lunged, violently pulling the boy from his toddler bike.

Then, the family’s cat, Tara, charged and jumped on the dog, frightening him away from the child and chasing him off the property.

That cat would get tuna and salmon - not from a can - for life if it was mine (plus whatever else is needed for a healthy diet).

Don’t you love how Mom leaves the boy lying in the driveway, still tangled up in his bike. Boy gets up while Kitty covers his flank yet again, and runs into the house. Eeesh.

My cat when I was 14 used to run roughshod over every dog in the neighborhood. That cat was so bad it attacked me like a pitbull, I still have the scars after 40 years where I was bit to the bone.

I don’t know what kind of cat this was, but I am not surprised other than the fact they got it on tape.

I think she may have been panicked and wanted to get a look at the dog, to see if she knew whose it was, or make sure what it looked like or if it looked rabid, since the car was blocking the view. Naturally she returned to the child after a brief look. The cat was a real team player, that's for sure!

From the video description...

Published on May 14, 2014

My cat defends my son during a vicious dog attack and runs the dog off before he can do additional damage. Thankfully, my son is fine!

Question: Why did the mom run away?
Answer: After checking his wounds she made sure the dog did not return for a second attempt. The owners were there also and she was bit by the dog as she tried to pin him in his yard. The owners did get control of the dog and secured him in which she immediately returned to attending to our son. I did not include that video because it was not so much about the dog but about the cats actions.

Most don't understand that pound-for-pound, cats are far more formidable than dogs. An 80-pound dog is no match for an 80-pound cat. They can kill animals several times their own weight, and can badly maul animals that far outweigh themselves. A leopard can kill an antelope its own size and haul it up a tree and hang it there.

They do all of this single-handedly, since they're solitary hunters, whereas (as you pointed out) dogs kill as part of a team.

Bravo! Nice work!

Our first family cat (she showed up pregnant, of course, that’s where the rest of the family cats came from) used to get her jollies ambushing wandering dogs (this was out in the boonies), and she wasn’t a big cat. One time she was napping in the grass in the shade of an ash tree near the house, woke up and spotted a freakin’ great dane that our kinda useless neighbors used to have, and she ran up into the tree (this all happened as my dad watched, he was probably working on a car at the time). The dog came bounding up the driveway, and just as he got under the nearest branch, this angry mass of black and white sprang down out of the leaves, perfect aim, landed on the dog’s back, all claws, he yelped, did a sort of wheelie, turned and ran for home (about a quarter mile through the brush). The cat got knocked off in the hail of sapling branches and whatnot, but she didn’t even look back to check to see if the dog had come back for more, she just came walking back across the road, up the lawn, and went back to her nap. What a cat she was.

Thanks lowbridge.

What a great cat story!! My family had a very petite Siamese cat who was as gentle as a lamb (if a little annoyed) with us kids even when we affectionately mauled her. But in much the same way as your wonderful cat, she attacked and ran off a large dog as well as a goat (!!!) that threatened her and hers. Would never believe that such a tiny, sweet little thing could be so efficiently savage.

I love that your cat didn't even look back when it came back to finish its nap! {^)

I am a cat person mostly, although I own two rescue dogs too.
But only now I can finally have a real live kitty hero to confirm that kitties too, can be faithful members of the pack, to the point of physical defense.

I am sorry to say that I doubt that my wimpy 42-lb Ozzy-Lab mix would have acted as bravely.

“Sorry to say it, cause I’m a dog guy, but that pooch needs to be put down.”

I’m a dog woman, but you’re right, that dog can never be trusted, he needs to go. He would have killed that kid and the kid had bad wounds into the muscles. I think I would have killed the dog myself after I got the kid help.

When my son was about 5, I saw him running toward the house and a dog was chasing him and going to catch him. Without thinking, I started running toward the dog and that dog was going to be dead when I got there. The dog saw me, turned, and ran. I surely would have killed him with my bare hands and he knew it. I weighed about 110 pounds but I would have killed him somehow.

Incredible cat! Lunge counterattack!

Also same name as my dog who died last week!

That dog is no good. Unbelievable how that little punk just ambles up and starts pulling apart the child.

I’d say it has a PBT type body, possibly a mix, but I don’t see a PBT giving up for a cat. Well, as I said, possibly a mix and the other side is wussy.

I love these kinds of videos for all the “lovers” telling us dog = God backwards, forever faithful, etc. Reality bites, doesn’t it? Not all dogs are great, and some are horrible.

I have been flamed many times on FR when I say I am sickened when I see a baby cuddling with a dog. I dog is an animal plain and simple. As is a cat. Thank God this cat was around and defended her ‘kitten.’

I am a dog person. I know dog behavior very well. This dog is a menace and sadly, should be put down. It pains me to say it. If it were my dog and my dog attacked me I would be forgiving of the dog and embrace a strict regimen of training and discipline. But when a dog is stalking and hunting a child it is dangerous and potentially deadly. There is no way to safely introduce a dog like this back in to a neighborhood setting.

I once had a cat that use to walk with me out by the river at my new house (North Idaho). Great cat. I got him (rescue cat and dog) to keep my dog company. Dog was about 25 lbs cat was about 19lbs. Both the dog and cat played endlessly and would go hiking / fishing with me along the river. The cat fought off foxes cayotes and other dogs. BUT, sadly, his luck ran out when he got ran over by a school bus when they put a new road in the neighborhood.
