A 25-year-old South Carolina man is dead after asking a friend to shoot him in order to test out a bullet proof vest.

According to Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown, the victim, Blake Randall Wardell, discovered the vest in a garage early Wednesday morning while hanging out with friends at a property on Broadmouth Church Road.

Wardell reportedly asked an 18-year-old friend, Taylor Ann Kelly to shoot him. She fired a small caliber weapon but the bullet missed the Kevlar and pierced his heart, according to McCown.

It would seem that if you’re going to “test” a bullet proof vest, it would be better to not be wearing it.

Put it on a coathanger, check it for holes. Sure beats getting perforated testing an unknown...

Duh! That's like saying you can fly and jumping off a tall building to prove it. If you can fly, why not just take off from the ground?

So why not just test the vest by firing at it with nobody in it? No one gets hurt!

Darwin award winner for sure....

Someone on one of the previous two threads on this subject noted that it was not a bullet-proof vest but a flak jacket. World of difference.

You give a gun to a woman who seems to have little experience with guns, and tell her to shoot you...and we’re surprised that she missed the broadside of the barn but tagged the soffit at the drip-edge and he’s dead.

Doesn’t matter, could have been AR500 steel plate. She missed the vest anyway.

Sounds like a Wylie Coyote and Road Runner cartoon.

One of the basic rules is to never point a firearm at anything you do not want to destroy. Short of foul play, they broke the rule.
