I also ordered some baby carrots and some radishes. Is there anything more fun than ordering seeds and plants? :)

$2.50 bought me 10 seeds.

That's actually pretty reasonable...I have seen them sell for as much as $7.99/10, but those are from vendors who go to great trouble (isolation and bagging blossoms) to maintain purity. Peppers love to cross-pollinate...before I knew better; I saved seed from some mustard habaneros (larger than regular ones) that we were using for a real tasty hot sauce. When I used the saved seed the following year; I wound up with one plant that threw mustard habaneros with stingers...it must have crossed with a nearby TS plant. For a real rush; get your hands on some Trinidad Scorpion Moruga seeds...no stinger and larger than TS...looks like a miniature human brain...when it comes to heat, puts everything else to shame. The only similarity between bhut jolokia and trinidad scorpion is that fact that both can send you to the ER if you aren't careful. :-)

Breeders are running amuck with hot peppers now; bhuts and scorpions now come in a variety of colors...collect 'em all!

Cucuzza = zero, zip, zilch, and nada. Next year, I will buy different seeds, not this brand.

I was thinking the same thing earlier, but we each bought different brands of seed, so, therefore, it is nothing to do with us, it's cucuzza...Maybe the problem is that I have no Italian blood in me, and the seeds sense this.

Armadillos carry tuberculosis IIRC.

They carry leprosy..and to think I know folks who have barbecued them.

It is great fun. Only thing is, I often order too much once I get started. LOL

Reminder to self—never again try using seeds from store bought tomatoes

I've tried that with store bought peppers, and god bumpkis.

I have no Italian blood either .... :-) I still think changing seed source is an option, especially since you at least got a couple to germinate whereas I have nothing (sniffle ...sob).

I did a survey and now I'm writing it.

righty, I have blooms on various peppers but still no peppers.

sockmonkey, the largest T squash, maybe 5 ft. tall, is only producing male flowers and they are falling off. More flowers are there to develop and I hope they are females, and a male is still on there at that time. I have 4 more T squash much smaller (have I said I hate Jiffy Seed starter?), about 9 inches tall, and I'll swear one has flower pods on it.

I definitely have cucumbers growing, the largest one is 3 inches. There are 15 plants of various types and the Homemade Pickles are the best at their rate of growth and blooming. I'll only plant those next year.

I need more tomatoes to appear where all those blooms are on the 4 largest tomato plants. Only have a total of 5 tomatoes actually growing. At least the plants are solid and sturdy which is better than I did last year managing to kill them all due to transplanting them too shallow. I have many other tomato plants of various types I need to transplant into larger permanent pots.

Johnny, some of the tobacco leaves are 16 inches long. When do I take those off and hang them up? And how do you attach them to hang them up?

Greeneyes, I HAVE NO LETTUCE.
That St. Anne's fell over and died and it wasn't for lack of water. Maybe it knew I didn't like it. I'm in a pickle about lettuce. I got the Tom Thumb packages, but it says, “An old world crop that requires cooler temperatures to grow really well.” Humph, I can't plant that now due to it will be hotter than hell in Texas very soon.

I have to search for lettuce that will grow in hot temperatures - I can shade it but that doesn't prevent the ambient air from being in the 90s and even higher before another month is gone. What to do, what to do, what to do???? Anyone know a lettuce that grows in heat? (I'll plant the Tom Thumb in the fall.)

They sent me a free envelope of “Lettuce Red Romaine” but it says it must have cooler temps. Plus it has a tap root that goes deep. The planters I have for lettuce are not deep but it doesn't matter anyway since it needs cool weather.

Johnny, I guess you have plenty of lettuce growing, what “brand” do you grow?

Bandera said she got over 2 inches of rain and that's the most I've heard from her for - maybe years? I visited her high on that hill where they live and one day it poured rain for a short while, then it was gone. There is a great view up on that hill looking across the hills and valleys.

Nasty little creatures.

When I was growing up there was a place here called "The Armadillo Farm", and they raised them (think the Chinchilla Craze of the late 50's). They sold purses, lampshades, sewing baskets, magazine holders..All made out of armadillos. I still have a sewing basket that was once a living breathing armadillo..

sockmonkey, the largest T squash, maybe 5 ft. tall, is only producing male flowers and they are falling off.

They only last about 24 hours open. I gathered some pollen from males on q tips, and it is in a ziplock bag in the fridge. I have little creepy flies, some ants, and bees hanging around the flowers...

Also, lizards love the T-Squash plants, so I've lost a few male flowers due to cats chasing lizards around the T squash plants. I do have some squash that are Picking size, but I am waiting for the weekend when a friend comes back from DC. We can do some kind of Korean stir with them.

You should already have small squash on your plants. Mine has been in the ground since 1 April and producing small squash.

I have grown black seeded simpson in the heat of summer by planting it where a tree shaded it in the afternoon, but it is a leaf lettuce. Little Gem Romaine also did well in the shade.

If you don’t have natural shade you can make it using a sheet or shade fabric to keep the sun off during the hottest part of the afternoon.

Check your Bountiful garden catalog, they should have some listed for hot weather too.
