A Sacramento man accused of beating, choking and hanging his pet dogs has been sentenced to 15 years and six months in prison.
A jury in March convicted Robert Lee Brian, 49, of three counts of felony animal cruelty, one count of assault and one count of criminal threat. He was sentenced Friday by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White.
Brian was arrested Oct. 7, 2013, for assaulting and threatening to shoot a female roommate after an early morning argument. After his arrest, Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation received multiple complaints regarding the condition of Brians male pit bull terrier, Bubba. On Oct. 8, the dog was impounded and immediately transported for treatment. Authorities said the dog had suffered a fractured skull and snout, and trauma to the right eye and face. He also had a massive infection and possible chemical burns.
