Delia Garcia-Bratcher was booked Saturday into Sonoma County Jail on a felony charge of inflicting injury on a child a day after deputies took her into custody at Olivet Elementary Charter School in Santa Rosa. Sheriff's deputies arrested a Northern California mother for allegedly grabbing a fifth grader by the throat after her son pointed him out as the student who was bullying her younger daughter.
Delia Garcia-Bratcher was booked Saturday into Sonoma County Jail on a felony charge of inflicting injury on a child a day after deputies took her into custody at Olivet Elementary Charter School in Santa Rosa.
"It's terrible when this kind of thing happens," Piner-Olivet Union School District Supt. Jennie Snyder said Monday morning. "Incidents like these are very rare."
Garcia-Bratcher was released on $30,000 bail. Attempts to reach her early Monday were unsuccessful. A number listed for her was disconnected.

Snyder said she will work to prevent Garcia-Bratcher from stepping onto the campus again, and that she was not aware of any bullying allegations. Now that she is aware, she said, she will "investigate fully."
The arrest came after a Sonoma County Sheriff's deputy went to the school on Willowside Road following a report of "child abuse."
When the deputy got there, school staff said a child had been "reportedly assaulted by a parent."

Next time I'll tell," before allegedly wrapping her fingers around his throat. She had entered campus at lunchtime, the deputy wrote in his report, without signing in.
According to the deputy, Garcia-Bratcher asked her son to identify the child who had been bullying her daughter. Deputies say she allegedly grabbed the student by the throat in front of many other students, including her own son. No adults witnessed the assault, the deputy said. The deputy did not detail what the alleged bullying was about. And later in the day, the sheriff's office issued a statement that "we were unable to find any nexus between the two students and are unable to determine if any bullying ever occurred between the two."
Brown would not say whether Garcia-Bratcher had a criminal history. But he did confirm that her father, Frank Bratcher, died in January after his body was found in the Russian River. He had recently been released from jail, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.
The fifth grade boy sustained red marks consistent with being grabbed in the neck, the deputy said. The injuries were immediately photographed by school staff.

"It's kind of scary," said Mariam Padilla, who has a kindergartener at the school. "To harm another child is unacceptable. No, I don't know the situation, but I don't know what she was thinking."
Amanda Navarro said she didn't know what to make of the news.

Overall, Navarro said she believes Olivet is a "very good school" and this appears to be a "random" albeit "shocking" incident.
The school district's website touts "personal integrity," "productive collaboration" and "effective communication" as some of its "cornerstone" qualities.
“Same thing here, my grandson is now home schooled. Got his end of year results last week, in the 99%. At 14 he is already programming. Got help from his dad, who is an engineer. And is his full time teacher.
The bully has been moved because he was getting in too much trouble.
My grandson had been in the same Christian School since K4.
Now he will start college by age 16.
And I am still angry because bullies get away with their bad deeds.”
I am still amazed when I hear about Christian and other private Schools backing the bullies. When my wife hears me mutter my amazement, she just shakes her head and say use both of your favorite sayings “coi buno” and follow the money.
Her point re rich bullies in private schools, the really rich and powerful can often buy their kids out of problems.
“I had a similar issue to deal with - except it was sexual harassment of my daughter.
I made an appointment, told them they had 24 hours to handle it before I filed police charges publicly.
It was handled that day.”
Good for you. I would suggest one extra tactic for any parent in this situation. Find the meanest and best trial lawyer in your area. Pay for a visit, discuss the situation with him and tell him you want to sue the educational staff, who are responsible for ignoring the bullying, one by one in civil court. Then, let the bastards know, you have this lawyer and name him/her, and you will be suing them in civil court and will own them, if they don’t take care of the problem.
“Around here there is a fleet of busses that run all morning and all afternoon and a few during the day. They are all but empty. Then there is the mile long line of cars that take kiddies to school and pick them up. All of this because of the thugs on the busses that can’t be controlled.”
That happened in our county about 3 decades ago with the bad seed of so called migrant workers. One area, labeled by our kids, as the 3 generation super Jock baby factory where big and strong kids from farms, ranches and dairies came from. So a bunch of these super jocks for a few weeks didn’t drive their pickups to school, they rode the buses.
As usual the bullies after the first really bad encounters for their side started behaving after being treated as blocking and tackling dummies or big footballs. The jocks’s parents, who were jocks and hard working guys, made house calls to the parents of the really bad bullies. The parents were informed if their bullies didn’t behave, they wouldn’t have any jobs in the country. The local deputies, who grew up in that area, started showing a strong presence at bus stops and following the buses.

I miss being home so much. We know a lot of people. My son had problems with someone cutting the lock on his gate so while home we staked the place out and found out who it was. Called the sherrif and gave the tag number and they asked who we were. The desk sergeant was a guy I went to school with and told my son he’d take care of it real soon. The tag belonged to a 50 something who was a thug in high school and never grew up. We sat in the woods on the tailgate watching. Sure enough, in about 15 minutes a patrol car drove by and in about another 10 minutes it came back by with a passenger in the back seat. We then got a call on the cell saying a tow truck would be by soon to get the pickup of the passenger. That was a year ago and we have not had any trouble since. It helps to know and be known by people. It can also be fun and rewarding!
The teachers and school administrators take the side of bullies because they are afraid of them.
What you posted was good old fashioned police work.
We still have some of them around.
