EAST GREENWICH, R.I. Citing concerns about the exclusive nature of the annual honors night at Archie R. Cole Middle School, school officials have decided to scrap the tradition.
Instead, students who would normally be recognized at the annual spring tradition will be honored during team-based recognition ceremonies and graduation.
The notice was sent to parents over the weekend in an e-mail signed by School Principal Alexis Meyer and Assistant Principal Dan Seger.
Members of the school community have long expressed concerns related to the exclusive nature of Honors Night, the email stated.

My daughter was the last Valedictorian at her HS last year. The HS has eliminated the Valedictorian & Salutatorian because the other 350 kids’ feelings would be hurt.

The world seems like one big parody these days.
Why bother, just ship me my trophy. And everyone in the school should get a letter if they don’t play a sport. I mean hell trying out for a team it takes time and effort and some may be ball challenged or some liberal crap.
One of those “Never Mind” moments. They have already exposed themselves as a school willing to dumb down an already oversexed (lgbt) and watered down (common core) education curriculum. This will be tried again. So the parent should consider this but a dress rehersal for future conflicts. Good parents for paying CLOSE attention.
Congrates to your daughter she know you know god know so all her bases are covered i was alway proud and strived to to better back in my school days
Would you get a 100K desk job with 3 secretaries to do all the hard work too. You could certainly skip college too.
Oh yeah, forget the secretaries because they’d want their 100K desk job too.
...and they don’t even see their own insanity.
Same thing with raising the minimum wage it will raise all boats nothing will change poor peeps will be poor peeps its monopoly money anyways
Socialism — reducing everyone to the lowest common denominator.
When the National Honors Society assembly came around senior year of high school I was sure I was getting in. Needless to say, I didn’t. I went into the bathroom to compose myself. My coach came in and started swearing and yelling about how it was such horsesh-t that I didn’t get in. I was almost in tears. I used that as motivation for years to come, and it did me a lot more good than if I had gotten in. People need to learn that failure is not a person, it’s an event.
“Members of the school community”
You mean, brain-dead liberals, right?
why bother.
Perish the thought that a school would make judgments on whether some students know the material better than others, and then document which students knew the material better than the others!!!
fTR, my wife informs me they have back pedaled and reinstated Honors Night.
“The HS has eliminated the Valedictorian & Salutatorian because the other 350 kids feelings would be hurt.”
Seriously??
Be Your Way
The HS has eliminated the Valedictorian & Salutatorian because the other 350 kids feelings would be hurt.
It is better than some school that have 10 Valedictorians and 100 Salutatorians. I am not kidding. It is repulsive. I don’t care how many AP classes you took....only ONE should be at the top.
Keep honors night and have a mediocrity night for the rest!
