How many foes do you have as friends on Facebook? If you are not sure, Kaspersky Labs says it will help you do so. The online security service provider has released a new Facebook app that could help you get rid of those who are a potential threat.
The firm says in the first quarter of 2014, 79.5 per cent of all social media phishing attacks targeted Facebook followed by 14.5 per cent on Twitter.
The free app will enable Facebook users to identify who among their friends are active spammers, who talk but never listen, who like to snoop around, etc.
The app will reveal who, if any, of your friends or friends of friends who repost and comment or tag your pictures are a potential threat.
As the firm notes, Facebook, in order to be so awesome, gathers a lot of data about a users behaviour which includes types of content a user posts, searches, the apps used, and every other activity on the social networking site.
As Evgeny Chereshnev, Head of Global Mobile Business Development at Kaspersky Lab puts it, the largest social network in the world is bound to attract the attention of cybercriminals. More often than not, they are on the hunt for personal data and login credentials which they can then use to access such things as your mobile banking account. It comes as no surprise then that Facebook is the most popular target for phishers.
The app is currently available in 12 different languages including English and Arabic.
The firm promises to add to the list of languages in the near future.
In before the “Whats a Facebook?” reply.
When I go to the Kaspersky site I don’t see any such software at all. Lots of interesting stuff, true, but this thing doesn’t seem to exist.
This could be useful if you “friend” everybody who sends you a request. If you are careful about adding people as friends whom you already know, then not so much.
