Shocking!

Alamo Drafthouse is about 2 miles from my home where they serve burgers, chips/salsa and craft beer while you watch a movie.

My wife and I watched a movie at a theater in Redmond that sells alcohol. It was actually really cool. The whole seating area is pairs of leather “barcolounger” type chairs with a subtle LED lit drink table between them. You press a button and a waitress comes to take your drink order.

Tickets were around $35 I believe. It was fun. We’d probably do it a few times a year if we still lived there, but we’ve replicated it in our media room on our KY farm, sans the waitress...

We have a chain here called Alamo Draft House that sells alcohol during the movie. It is priced to keep out the riff raff. Its about the only way I will leave the comforts of my home to go to a movie. They recently kicked out some celebrity for looking at her phone during the movie.

There’s at least one theatre in the Seattle area that’s been doing that for several years. It’s a restaurant/theatre concept, and all the seats are fronted by a narrow “table”. You can order alcoholic drinks and restaurant-type meals, not just the usual theatre food. I’d give it three stars out of five - good, but not great.

I first saw this in a small movie house in downtown Jacksonville. The twist was you brought your own wine. They served food - mostly pizza - and the place seemed like your home theatre.

That is exactly what makes it worth it. Frankly, because we don’t have tv, we often don’t even know about a movie until it has hit Blueray, and the library near us rents the latest stuff for free, and we have a decent sized flat screen, which actually has a BETTER picture than most theaters, and I’ve been an audiophile for decades, so the sound system is better than the theaters, and we keep our floor significantly less sticky.

I don’t even know why I would want to go to a theater any more.

Any off-hand recommendations for a one-up-from-starter set of 5.1 speakers for a smallish (12’x15’) theater room?

Agree completely on “I don’t even know why I would want to go to a theater any more.”

lol - I remember going to a theatre on S. Congress in Austin to see Fritz the Cat - You could smoke in the theatre. Ashtrays mounted on the back of the seat in front of you. This was 73 or 74.

We have those in California already. I’ve been to a few. Of course they are 21 and older movie theaters.

Cinema and Drafthouse has been doing this for years. There’s at least 3 in the Tidewater VA area.

You couls spill stuff on you in the dark, or have to pee a lot...hopefully you don’t use your cell phone to check on the kids, or you could get shot.

Of course they do. Lots of families with their kids are there for pizza parties on weekends. Tickets are cheap...food & drink, not so much.

I just build my own stuff. I’ve been out of the “storebought stuff” loop for well over a decade. I always liked Polk Audio though...
