The Israeli known for interrogating Adolf Eichmann is reunited in death with his wife after 34 years

BERLIN — With the words of the Kaddish and a sprinkle of earth over his remains, the Israeli official who interrogated Adolf Eichmann was reburied Friday in Berlin’s Wannsee neighbourhood, not far from the house where the Nazi who helped organize the Holocaust outlined his genocidal plans in 1942. Though the choice of the final resting place for Avner Less — near the mansion that hosted the infamous Wannsee Conference — was more coincidence than symbolism, his son told The Associated Press his father would have appreciated the irony.

“I think he would be quite pleased at the contradiction of these two men who had different ideas,” Alon Less said. “It is quite a good contrast.” Friday’s cemetery ceremony brought Avner Less back together with his wife, Vera, whose remains also were reinterred on the spot after being moved from her original Hamburg resting place. That fulfilled a pledge Alon made to his dying father in 1987: to bury his parents together in their native Germany. “I made a promise to my father on his death bed to bring him to his wife, because they belong together,” he said. “It’s a beautiful love story.”

The National Socialists were killing Jews and other who they disagreed with way before 1942.

Hitler wrote about the extermination of the Jews in the 1930’s and this is outlined in his book “My Struggle”

I was six years old when the monster went on trial. It was televised and carried by US networks. My first memories of TV are not Howdy Doody, but crematoria with charred skeletons.

The Eichmann Trial was a profound event in the history of Israel.

Up to that point, Holocaust survivors were somewhat looked down upon. Others resented that they didn’t resist more than they did...In fact, The Holocaust wasn’t talked about all that much in Israeli society.

Then the Eichmann Trial, and for the first time, Israelis truly learned about the Holocaust, and then they understood.

I read a fascinating book called Eichmann in My Hands by the agent who actually grabbed the s.o.b. They exercised remarkable restraint in getting him safely back to Israel for the trial.

To date, I believe he is the only person ever formally tried and executed by the State of Israel.

Very remarkable when you consider all those who deserved a similar fate.

If you watch the movie, there is a scene where his Hungarian Mistress basically takes of Jewish baby off the street, then later forces Eichmann to kill it. I’m a bit skeptical that really happened. At least I had never heard of that story before.
