That’s not what Jesus thought: John 10:34. Even after the Fall we are still created in the image and likeness of God. In other words, even in our sinfulness, we, as a species, are pretty damn impressive - just not spiritually.

The angels are probably envious of us - Satan most definitely is - for we are not only corporeal beings but God became one of us to die for our redemption. God never became an angel to redeem fallen angels (wouldn’t have worked anyway, angels had perfect knowledge when they made their choice). So, although we are lesser beings compared to Adam and Eve, we are still created in the image and likeness of God - unlike any other creature other than angels. God became one of us - in all ways but sin - and that means we must be pretty awesome to Him.
OTOH, what happens after the new birth is quite a bit different.
Those of us who have faith in our Creator will find ourselves returned to our original intention.
If only we could convince those that we love who still refuse to believe.
That is the great tragedy. Even God weeps over this.
