Hero Cat -- Attack Dog Euthanized [Don't blame me, I didn't write the headline.]
TMZ ^ | 5/25/2014

Every dog has it's day ... and in the case of the Lab/Chow mix that viciously attacked a little boy only to be scared off by hero cat -- his last day was Saturday.

Sources at the Bakersfield animal shelter tell TMZ ... Scrappy was euthanized at the end of a 10-day hold following the attack. We're told the dog was aggressive during his stay at the shelter, even trying to bite a couple of employees.

Scrappy was so ornery ... we're told he would try to attack staff even when they tried to give him food and water.

You’re kidding, right?

Or maybe there’s more than one Hero Cat out there.

I still say it’s an elaborate hoax.

I agree. Chows are mean and nasty.

I’ve always heard the same thing. My aunt used to have a beautiful tan chow male with a bright purple tongue, his name was Bobby. She always kept Bobby leashed up or outside during our visit. we petted him as she held him, and no more after that. Some dogs are great pets but may become One Man Dogs, like I’ve heard that Doberman’s usually are.

Hero cat? I thought the only way cats could be heroes to humans is if a human ate it to survive.

Would I kid on the internet about a cat stalking dogs in various cities, goading them into attacks, and creating video evidence to have them killed by authorities?

The surprising thing was the dog’s body language; it approached the child without apparent hostility, as though it just wanted to sniff him and, possibly, play with him. Then, when it got close enough, WHAM!!, it went into full wolf/predator mode. Never was a dog so deserving of its end as that one. BTW, I’m dog daddy to two big, friendly dogs, an 85 lb. Pitador and a 110 lb. Great Dane.

Not surprised, but needed to be done. Agreed. After seeing the stalking behavior of the animal, combined with the injury it had inflicted on that child, that animal had no business being kept as a pet. Frankly, the only useful place for that dog was locked up inside a fenced in junkyard at night. That or maybe as a special "service animal" to "befriend" the Muslim terrorists held in Gitmo.

Some dogs, like some people, are born messed-up, but yeah, cruelty is the most probable explanation, IMO.

One of the rescue dogs (sweet female German Sheppard) my husband got was abused. She would NOT take food from either one of us, even if we dropped it by her and walked away.

It took a while for us to find out what it was. But one day a young Latino male, with a folded-in umbrella approached us. Our dog FREAKED.
We figured that at one time a young Latino male got her to come to him by using food as a lure...then beat the holy pie outta her with the folded up umbrella when she got near.

Dogs don't forget.
It took over a year but she FINALLY got to trust and love us, especially my husband. He SURE had a way with animals.

Wait. what?

There are cats out there setting up dogs, provoking them to attack children?

Bless you and your husband for helping that poor poochie. People who abuse animals should receive terrible justice.

I may be mistaken, but it looked to me like the dog was stalking the child from the get-go. The fact that dog apparently tried to hamstring the child leads me to believe that he saw the kid as lunch.

LOL! Your kitteh reminds me of a story my late father told about the infamous Old Muzzy. Dad was born in 1900 and grew up in a small town in southern IL. There was a fence around his parents’ home with a grape arbor arching over the entrance. Muzzy would lie at the top of the arbor, hidden by the vines, awaiting the approach of an innocent, unfortunate dog, of which there were many, mostly mild, gentle hounds. As her intended victim would walk under the arbor, she’d droop suddenly onto his back, claws extended, and sink them in, hard. Every time, the victim screamed in terrible pain and ran as fast as he could. Whenever the family heard one of the agonized canine screams, somebody would say, “Ol Muzzy just got another.”

I have had 2 bad dogs. One was large and mean but managable. The other was a terrier mix. Sneaky and mean. It would be friendly and loving but jump on your lap. It then used it’s paw to get you to rub its chest.

If you stopped it would growl and use it’s paw again.

If you didn’t start again that was a snap...stop again it was a biting!

Bit my young son....put it down. Sad but no regrets.

Agreed. Any dog that attacks a human in that manner should be put down.

Sad, but necessary.

When I first read this story, I figured the cat was a girl kitty, probably acting from a maternal instinct to defend her family.
